Anybody who has ever worked on some sort of project car has picked up a rattle can or two at some point along the way. I spent some time with the folks from Dupli-Color today, talking about some new products they are now bringing to Canada that are far from being just a spray bomb for gearheads.
I’m actually pretty excited about a couple of these products, as they are things that I will have almost immediate use for in my own garage.
Like many vehicles with matte black or grey trim, our Nissan Xterra suffers from a case of faded plastic bumper caps. Even though I have been heavily immersed in the car wash biz over the years, the reality is that there has never been a product that truly deals with white-ish plastic. Dupli-Color has launched a new product called Plastic & Vinyl Restore that promises to do just that. I have a can and will be shooting a video of my tests next week.
They also have a really cool looking paint kit which imitates the look of carbon fiber. I think my kid and I are going to use this kit to paint the hood of the ’65 Sprite race car we are re-assembling.
The company has created an all-in-one scratch repair kit which looks like it might make the old school paint brush in a tube touch up paint you get at your dealership. I also brought back a sample of their new Bed Armor, which is a DIY pick-up bed coating which promises to have a bunch of other non-automotive uses too. I’m not sure what I’ll do with that one yet, but I’m sure I’ll find something that needs a grippy, damage resistant surface.
The Dupli-Color gang also has a pretty healthy presence on YouTube, where they share lots of how-to’s along with some cool project segments. Check out the reveal of a ’69 Scout project they recently finished at the SEMA show last Fall.
