Would the World’s Fastest Street Legal Car Please Stand Up!

It has come to be over the past few days after publishing an article in UMM (Urban Male Magazine) considering the possibility of what the fastest street car in the world is. That there is not really any clear line as to what the actual ‘fastest’ is…

In the article I casually named off the Ultima GTR720 as one of the most capable, even perhaps beyond the Bugatti Veyron, which was a big mistake.

I was given a quick and proper tongue lashing by fans of the Veyron who quickly reminded me that it is important to point out that technically it is not faster than the Bugatti Veyron if you consider top speed as your main factor.

Yes, with 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, the Ultima would certainly give the famed Bugatti Veyron a run for its money, but not over its top speed.

Okay, I will give you that!

But now in comes Guinness Records to report the SSC Ultimate Aero TT (TT- stands for two beautifully crafted twin turbo’s) with 1183-hp and 1094 ft-lbs of torque, has now recently claimed the record top speed of 256.19 mph, giving it the official title as fastest street legal production car in the world.

…And technically the Aero’s top speed is said to be more like 273 mph, so perhaps a few bugs were stuck on the windshield and blew the whole aerodynamics thing, one can never be sure!

Then you have the folks with their Red Victor One’s built out of their own driveways, leaving coffee-stained white shirts on DMV driver test employees the world over. But ‘production’ vehicles these are certainly not!

Could the opinion of the fastest street car be like (ahem…) holes, that is everyone has one… or is there a clear and definite winner out there?

Would the World’s Fastest Street Legal Car Please Stand Up! I would love an expert opinion on this matter…
