The sports news world is going crazy trying to figure out what the Ferrari/Schumacher press meeting will bring this Sunday following the F1 race at Monza. Most people are assuming that Schumacher will announce his retirement from Formula 1.
Let’s put a different spin on things here. Maybe Mikey’s retirement isn’t the big news. Maybe he’s decided to join Montoya and Villeneuve in NASCAR. Maybe he’s decided to buy NASCAR!
We’ll just have to wait and see.

Schumi’s in for 2007. He’s still the man to beat, and he knows it.
He wants that 8th WC in the worst way.
I suspect he’ll race alongside Raikkonen, though neither will like it. I see shades of the (in)famous Senna-Prost McLaren days. He couldn’t conceive that Kimi may be faster; his ego can’t even grasp the concept. He may be in for a rude awakening.
Heck, he’s making $80+MM per year. Why walk away from all that money? He’s the most recognized face in F1, and the most marketable driver in the world.
What I can’t figure out is why Ferrari wants MushMouth Raikkonen on the team. Yes, he’s damn quick, but he has all the personality of a wet rag. His interviews are painful to watch. Like him or not, Schumi’s a charismatic driver and displays a genuine love of the sport. He obviously loves what he does, and that’s been evident from day 1. Which is why that 1994 Benneton-Ford model sits on my mantle. Kimi seems to be bored to death with it all. Maybe it’s a language/culture thing, but how hard can it be to act like it’s fun? I just don’t see him having the positive impact that Michael has had on Ferrari both in F1 and for their road car programs.
Oh well, blew that prediction. I still think Ferrari is CRAZY for taking Kimi.
