Way back in the archives I had posted some cool pieces from the 1964 European Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. While looking for another old program to repair a post on Mark Donohue, I just came across the actual race program from the ‘64 GP.
This program is a bit more dog eared than some of the others in the collection, but the photos and ads inside are beyond compare. There is some really cool stuff and I’ll be posting some of the images later. How cool? How about a Tupperwear ad featuring Jim Clark’s Lotus? Vintage Scalextric anyone? How about Jim Clark in a kilt perched upon a road going Lotus?

Cool! I have drawers full of such stuff all of which I cherish. What’s funny about all of it is that it took 50 years to collect it all but I never really thought of any of it as collectable. I simply kept most of this stuff because it reminded me of the day I was there or someone I was with and so on. There in lies the dilemma… While something may be of value on a personal level it may be of value on a collectable level as well. Then again I suppose the reason any item is of value as a collectable item is simply because of the personal link someone might have with it.
So many times over the years my son has pulled something out and said, “Geeze Dad, where did you get this?” to which I always say, “I was there.”
