Over at Jalopnik today, they are talking about a Trans Am teaser that Car & Driver have printed in the December 06 issue. It seems that a key guy at Ford wants to make this happen. The possible plan? Start a single make series for the 550 hp Mustang and then expand to include other models. Imagine that…production based poney cars battling it out on the track for a bit of Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday.
Early this year, I posted about the state of the Trans Am and put a suggestion out there. A link to that post was e-mailed to a bunch of key people surrounding the series. The site counters showed some pretty interesting home urls in the days following. Could this post have started some brains working?
It would be pretty arrogant of me to think that I may have planted the seed that started the resurrection of one of the greatest racing series of all time. Then again, it would be pretty cool to think that something from The Garage may have played a part in it!
Bring on the production based Trans Am cars!
It would be nice to see the Trans Am return to a format from its early days. With the manufacturer rivalry going full throttle.
