So a long day in the real world is finished, I crack open a cold Steelback Silver and sit down to begin my evening of reporting on the automotive world. I opened the Toronto Sun’s sports page & there is is, the report that one of my favourite breweries may actually be rescuing the Molson Indy Toronto Grand Prix from falling into Lake Ontario.
Dean McNulty is reporting that an unconfirmed source has leaked info that Steelback is indeed going to be the title sponsor of the Champ Car weekend in Toronto. Since it’s inception, Toronto has been the jewel in Indy Car oops PPG oops Champ Car’s crown. With the withdrawal of Molson, the event seemed to lose a bit of it’s lustre. That’s easy to understand when you realize that after 21 years, Steelback will be only the second title sponsor. The full deal is to be revealed at a press event on March 16. The Garage will do our best to get you the goods first hand.
It seems fitting that Steelback should host the greatest sporting event Toronto has ever seen. With a week full of parties and media events, Toronto is most teams fave stop on the circuit. It’s not just about the racing, but the community involvement. Steelback is a true local company that makes a point of being involved in their community. From sponsoring pulling tractors and drag cars, they have also been huge supporters of breast cancer research. Don’t think though that they only think on a local scale though, as they were also to Official Beer of the Jordan F1 team.
