They’ve called our fair city Toronto The Good for years, because we have so little crime compared to most other cities of it’s size. As economic times get tougher for the legit community, so too does it get tougher for the scumbags.
On Monday, a guy walked into an Acura dealership in Toronto and asked to test drive a TL without Navi. They didn’t have one on the lot. A short time later, the same guy visited Acura Sherway, and made the same request. They had exactly the car he wanted to see in their inventory. The salesman went out on the drive with the customer. At some point during the drive, the customer pulled out a handgun and put it to the salesman’s temple. The guy told the salesman to get out of the car and then took off with the TL.
While scenes like this may be commonplace in some of the larger cities south of the border, we aren’t accustomed to it here in Toronto. Perhaps that’s why the scumbags are brazen enough to do it, because we aren’t expecting it.
Times are tough indeed.
I know a gentleman who had his S4 stolen the exact same way a few years back. He was selling it privately, two guys showed up at the house, wanted to take it for a test drive. He went with them, they had the gun, and now his S4.
I’m not really sure why anyone would find a problem with this story. It’s about time the salesman were held up instead of the buyer.
That just highlights the problem with the Toronto criminal class of today…Absolutely no sense of ambition in life. Of all the cars out there, this half-brained moron chooses an Acura to hijack???
I see it this way, if I’m going to pull a gun on a salesman, it’s going to be for something slightly more desirable than a TL, even if it has got Navi.
It’s this type of low-life petty criminal that makes me ashamed to say I come from the Toronto area. How are we ever going to make this a world class city if our criminal masterminds can’t think bigger and better than a dressed up Honda 🙂 🙂
If the dealership would require a signed demo form and take a copy of the drivers license it would discourage such activities.
Strada – in principle yes, but fake licenses are fairly easy to come by in the dark world. Oh yeah, car dealerships aren’t exactly noted for their detail!
Crash…from Tdot? You mean they don’t have creepy sods on that rainy island you originally hail from?
Or do they steal Vauxhalls?
Vauxhalls, what’s wrong with Vauxhalls Gary….Saturn Aura, Saturn Astra, both Vauxhalls (well, the German sister cars), and both award winning cars you know.
All I’m saying is, if you’re going to risk jail, especially by using a gun (Which, by the way, should carry an automatic 5 year addition to your sentence just for carrying one on a crime, like the Britain justice system does), then wouldn’t you go for something a little more upmarket than an Acura?
I don’t really see anyway of eliminating this type of crime completely, but highly prominent surveillance cameras in dealerships might be a good starting point.
