When Audi annouced that they were planning to build diesel race cars, many skeptics scoffed. Of course Audi then built the cars and they were fast. In fact, they look like they are in pretty good shape for the 24 hour race in Lemans this June.
Over at Autoblog, they are talking about yet another enviro friendly beastie being prepared by Welter Racing for the 2008 Lemans race. Led by Peugot design director Gerard Welter, this biodiesel machine is being partially funded by the French governement. Just in case anyone thinks these guys are crackpots, Welter racing has a long history of success in the famed French enduro. Active at Lemans since 1976, Welter Racing has scored one class win and 5 podium finishes. In yet another case of racing improving the breed, look for Welter racing to perform with a new class of car in the near future.
whether you like the design, livery, or engine type.. i love these enduro proto-type cars! i want to drive one in 2010 – any, i’m not fussy 🙂 but not to be over aiming, first will be my debut overseas enduro in the Super Taikyu 12 hour in 2008. Was supposed to do this end of the year, but had to be pushed back. Specifically, I need more enduro night racing time under my belt – but it will happen!
having been around “real” can-am cars as a kid, the style of open cockpit, full bodied sports racers has always turned my crank. i would love to drive one – though i think i’d need a bit of a training program first before i’d fit!
