What a crazy weekend in racing all over. At Road America, a Camaro went ballistic, as did a former World Champion. Here in Ontario, Mother Nature wreaked havoc with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series practice on Saturday and then teased with the occasional drop from above and some of the nastiest clouds we’ve seen all year. Apparently there may have even been a bit of a dust up on the Mosport oval track on Saturday night. Something about a disagreement regarding a black flag!
For the most part, the weather held off and there was some awesome racing at Ontario’s fabled racing facility on Sunday.
The Porsche 944 Cup may have been the biggest surprise of the weekend, bringing back memories of some of the best racing North America has ever seen. Of course the depth of talent and car preparation may not be quite the same as the Rothman’s Porsche Series, but the field was big and the racing was great.
As always, the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Series put on a great show all weekend. We’ll have more details on their races shortly.
For most of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competitors, Saturday was quite literally a washout. A cancelled qualifying session on Saturday meant that several top road course contenders started at the back of the pack. Between that and a few road course rookies, Sunday’s race was bound to be exciting and exciting it was. I’ll leave it up to Jay Tomchuk to report on that race, but I’ll tell you that between a record number of full course caution periods and a massive 3 way battle for the lead on the last 2 laps, it was one of the most exciting races at Mosport in a long time!
In between cracking a rib and writing a few stories, I managed to capture a few images over the weekend. Here are a few to keep you entertained for a while!
Oh yes, did I mention there was a Formula
Ford 1600 race? I’m not sure anyone outside of the competitors knows what happened in that one!
