Team Mad Macs begins 2008 season on a strong note

Over the past few years, we’ve sort of put our own involvement in racing on the back burner while we do important things like shuttle kids and pay the mortgage. Fortunately, we’ve been lucky to have friends still involved in racing and we live vicariously through their stories. We might even pop in and help out every now and then when time allows.

One of those lucky folks who we’ve glommed onto is Perry Ianuzzi, the jolly leader of Team Mad Macs. TMM is essentially Sentra central in Ontario and Perry and his crew have assembled a new beast for the 2008 Ontario GT Sprints season and the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires.

The 2008 season started well, as once Perry “shook off the cobwebs” he was able to put in a podium finish on Sunday in the GT-B event. Great way to start the season guys & girls.

Special thanks to all of my team for the great achievement in putting car 223 on the podium on this very first race weekend of 2008.
Christi Darby, Karl Tappin, Rachelle Hingley & Amber Shultis pulled together to put a fantastic car in the hands of team owner/driver Perry Iannuzzi. AIM Motorsports Daytona Prototype mechanic Dan Hingley made an unscheduled pit stop with the team to correct some minor suspension problems.
After some initial set up issues the car performed flawlessly. We will continue to develop the car over the year to become a dominant force in the GTB class in the Mobil 1 GT Sprints Championship.
After a dismal 2007 season of not even a podium finish, the are really energized that 2008 may be our year. We’ll post some pics form the weekend real soon.
The team heads back to Mosport this weekend where teammates Frank Blanchet & Perry Iannuzzi will be going head to head with some of Canada’s finest race drivers & cars in the inaugural 2008 race of the Castrol Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires. We hope to see you there.
