Today is rest day for the competitors at Dakar. A day for drivers and co-drivers to get some sleep and maybe even a shower if they are lucky. We’ve heard stories that it is 140 degrees F in the desert and folks haven’t had a shower in a week! Funky!
Team Chinook are still on the road, on their way to being the first Canadian team to finish the event on 4 wheels. That is not to say that it has been easy though. Earlier in the week, the battled some fuel problems and then on Wednesday, the alternator failed on the race truck. Crew member, Troy, apparently sold his soul to
the devil Robby Gordon’s crew to procure a new one.
The latest news from the team is from 16 hours ago, when the truck was stranded 100 km from the end of yesterday’s final stage with a broken radiator. The crew can’t help until the truck makes it back to the main road. Even still, it looks like they are listed in 75th place, which means that other teams are having even bigger problems.
I would hope that by now they have made it back to the bivouac so that Conor and Tom can get some much needed rest. Somehow I doubt the crew will be getting any sleep!Even still, it looks like they are listed in 75th place, which means that other teams are having even bigger problems.
Today’s photos are once again from Jose Villamil. These were shot as Team Chinook pulled out of Iquique for the start of day 7. Iquique is an oasis town in the northern tip of Chile, that is surrounded by massive desert hills. On his blog, Jose has posted lots of incredible shots over the past few days.
