2006 GP2 Champion Lewis Hamilton has landed the number two seat for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 team, alongside World Champion Fernando Alonso. Starting his career at age 9 in karts, Hamilton has been groomed for F1 by McLaren since way back in 1998. That gives the 21 year old a whopping 12 years of racing experience, with the last 9 years supported by McLaren and Mercedes. Talk about killer backing! The best equipment and driver’s coaches money can buy. Little wonder the kid shines! That said, you’ve got to wish him luck and hope he doesn’t get overshadowed by his team mate.

Two time Formula 1 World Champion and two time dad Mika Hakkinen and DaimlerChrysler have teamed up with a new project called MobileKids. Aimed at kids and teens, MobileKids teaches kids how to be smart on the road, from seatbelt use to helmet use when riding a bike. This is a great program, now if they can just figure out a way to get all those parents out there to teach by example, all of our kids would be safer.

When I first heard rumours of Jacques Villeneuve recording a single, I thought it must be a prank, possibly even a drunk karaoke incident. Then actual lyrics and even a title appeared. Today I decided to go have a listen, only to find that the single is hosted on JV’s myspace page! Un Freakin’ believable. Former World Champion turned pylon, now turned Roch Voisin wannabe!
Now I know that JV is a fan of some pretty heavy Alt Rock, so I kind of suspected a heavy garage band sound. What I got was a French Canadian folk ballad with a video that looks like Julie Andrews will appear at any moment! This cat is LAME!
For any of you who really want to pick up one of the 5000 copies of this drivel will have to visit Jacques’ restaurant NEWTOWN in Montreal. Maybe bring along your Celine Dion cd’s & JV will Autograph them on behalf of his fellow expat French Canadian.

The 1967 Player’s Grand Prix of Canada was held at Mosport. Reigning World Champion Jack Brabham was the winner, driving a Brabham B19-Repco. The program holds some pretty cool advertising for the 67 US GP as well as an ad featuring Graham Hill Girl’s Driving Gloves for $9.95
