FOC heads to Targa Newfoundland

As our Gary Faules gets ready for La Carrera Panamerica in a few weeks, the Andrew Harvey and Warwick Patterson from Flat Over Crest are on the rock following the other big North American vintage road rally. That’s right, Targa Newfoundland is in full swing and the FOC crew will be keeping us up to date with daily images. I’ll bet Warwick may even throw in a video here and there. Nudge, Nudge!

Gallery: Great American Race visits Nashville

Last month saw the running of the 25th Great American Race. Fortunately for The Garage, the Great Race had a stop in Nashville, Tennessee, home of contributor Scott Simmons from Editblog. Scott took a ton of photos of some more than incredible machinery during the visit. This looks to be one of those Must do in my lifetime events, I’m glad Scott was able to get some shots for us.

Gary Faules’ GT-350 Clone getting closer to the track

There comes a point in every race car build when the project actually starts to feel like a race car. For many of us, that time is when you can actually sit in it. Well, in a racing seat and not a milk crate!

Gary Faules and his crew have been hard at work getting Lucky ready for the 2007 edition of La Carrera Pananmerica. You can follow their progress at Gary’s build blog.

More fun Fiats

Yesterday’s post about Alain Raymond’s Fiat Abarth 850 TC has brought out a few more pics. Firstly, it seems that Raymond has another cool toy at home. This is a real 1968 Fiat Abarth 595 SS, perhaps the hottest evolution of the Fiat 500. This car was restored in France in 1988 and then found it’s way to Quebec and eventually into the hands of Mr. Raymond.

Chihuahua Express Comes to an end

And Coop has gone photo mad! Really, he’s only got four huge posts. I’ll bet that there are hundreds more where these came from.

Be sure to visit Positive Ape Index to check out all the pics. Watch for some great scenery, great cars and some pretty hefty scars.

Chihuahua Express gets underway

The 2007 edition of the Chihuahua Express gets underway this morning, with a trip from Chihuahua City to Madera and back. Apparently the first stage is about 40 km, so the crews and their machines are starting with a real workout. The shot above is Coop’s ride this year and he’s got a ton of great paddock shots where this one came from.

Good luck everyone and be sure to drink lots of fluids!

Competitors Rolling in to Chihuahua Express

It amazes how many nice old Volvo rally cars keep turning up for vintage rallies these days. The Unlimited Class blog has already posted some nice paddock shots, as competitors prepare for the start.

Classic Rallye Canada

crc-header.jpg

Every now and then, something cool right under my nose escapes me. Classic Rallye Canada is one of those things. It took a post from Classic Rallies way over in Jolly Olde to wake me up.

Classic Rallye Canada is a road rally that is open to any car built before 1978 and will take place on the roads of rural Quebec in September. This is actually the second attempt, following an aborted effort last October when insurance problems arose for international competitors. This is a TSD rally, meaning that cars do not require performance or safety mods and helmets are not required unless one wishes to take part in the optional lapping at Mont Tremblant.

We’ve been putting some thought towards a Volvo 242 GT here in the Garage, but that would still be too new for this event. Maybe we need to find some willing sucker partner with a cool older car and put together an entry. Hmmmm.
