I always get a kick out of reading other people’s reviews of a car that I’m about to test, so it was cool that Wes Siler from Jalopnik had a similar Taurus X last week. Fortunately, our tester had a more photogenic colour combo than the two tone deal that Wes had.
I suppose the first thing we should discuss is the branding issue. Ford has been trying hard to try to rectify some of the branding nightmares they’ve created recently by resurrecting the Taurus nameplate. The Freestyle moniker hadn’t struck a chord with consumers, so rather than let it continue they renamed it the Taurus X in deference to the available awd. Really, all it seems to have done is confused the brand recognition even more. Most people sort of scratch their heads & say…”so you’re driving a Ford 500 right?” Maybe they should have stuck with Freestyle.

No, they didn’t let Tim Allen loose with the heavy equipment again! 20 year old Alex Habay was minding his own business, waiting for a traffic light to change, when his rear window exploded and his car moved forward 20 feet. It seems the cable holding a wrecking ball snapped, launching the ball which then traveled 3/4 of a mile, landing in the trunk of Habay’s Taurus. The impact pushed the car into the car in front, causing a 3 car chain reaction!

Any good manager will spend some time observing a new company before going ahead and making their mark. It seems that Alan Mulally has spent the last couple of months wisely and now he’s beginning to flex his muscles a bit. Not only is he going to don his best polyester suit (will the white shoes match the belt?) but it looks like he’s also taking a run at the branding department.
