National Motorcycle and Tattoo show in Toronto this weekend

March 31, 2012 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

Summer made a quick appearance in Ontario earlier this month, but now we’re back to the unpredictable Spring weather we should be having. Predictable weather or not, it is nice to see and hear Southern Ontario riders out on the roads. Spurring things on this weekend is the National Motorcycle and Tattoo show at the Better Living Centre at Toronto’s CNE grounds.

The show is a combination motorcycle flea market and custom bike show, along with a section for used bikes. If like me, you aren’t a rider, there is still lots to see, from historic bikes to full on customs. A couple of dozen tattoo shops are on hand as well, applying some incredible art while show visitors watch.

Head past the jump to see a gallery of images from the show. Then, head over to the show’s website to plan your day tomorrow.

Motorsports Artist: Paul Chenard

It’s pretty rare to find someone who shares the same artistic sense of racing history that we have here in The Garage. Today, thanks to the world of the internet I met Paul Chenard. The Cobra Daytona on the front page of his current site just jumped out at me, as it’s done in a similar style to the image my tattoo is based on. A browse around his site shows a great collection of classic racing images that obviously have influenced Paul’s own art.

Soon enough, Paul will have a new home site, set up to sell his work. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s up.

It seems like everyone is getting a tattoo these days. Some people don’t put an awful lot of thought into what they get & you can pretty much guarantee that they will regret the work in years to come. I have wanted some ink for years, but I was determined to get something that was unique to me and that not only meant something, but described me.

The Joy of Expression

There is a reason that tattoo shops aren’t allowed to ink folks under 16 or 18 depending on where you are. Youth and stupidity go hand in hand. Case in point, the spud pictured above. A Chevy Cavalier of all things. This dude is doomed to stocking shelves in the local grocery store for the rest of his life.

I’ve been jonesin’ for a tatty for years, but have wanted to be sure that it was the right image. It had to be automotive art and it couldn’t look like that abomination above. It had to be something classic and tasteful.
