Castrol to support Judd Buchannan at Targa Newfoundland

There are few names in the history of Canadian motorsports that go back as far as Castrol, the oil company that has been involved with Canadian racing since the beginning. When the first Targa Newfoundland was run in 2003, Castrol was one of the main sponsors of the event. That year, Judd Buchannan finished 3rd overall in his super fast, super unique 1967 Acadian Canso. The following years have seen Targa finishes ranging from 4th to 2nd overall, but the top spot has escaped Buchannan.

For 2007, Buchannan has been joined by Castrol and is planning an all out assault on The Rock’s twisty tarmac roads. It sounds like this is going to be a win at almost all cost attempt.

Kenzie’s Targa Mini

PIC_0015.JPG

One our quest to find a BMW 1 Series, the boys and I headed over to BMW Canada of Sunday afternoon. We didn’t find a 1, but Jim Kenzie’s steed for Targa Newfoundland was sitting outside the shop door. This Cooper S is pretty typical for a tarmac rally car, with lots of John Cooper Works add ons, along with all the usual safety upgrades. Oddly enough, it was the first time the either of the boys have ever noticed a removable steering wheel.

Targa Newfoundland is a tarmac rally that attracts teams from around the world, bringing both modern and vintage rally cars to the incredible roads around Newfoundland. Canadian automotive writer Jim Kenzie and his Mini have become fixtures at this annual event.
