Global Rallycross carnage compilation by GoPro

If rallysport is the purest form of motorsport, then rallycross has to be the purest form of racing. It certainly is the most exciting, for fans and drivers alike. The sport isn’t new, having been active across the Atlantic for decades, where competitors battle it out of race tracks that are a combination of dirt and pavement. With the launch of the Global RallyCross Championship a couple of years ago though, the excitement was pushed to a whole new level.

Guerlain Chicherit has massive crash while attempting new World Record jump

French stunt driver Guerlain Chicherit’s bid to beat Tanner Faust’s World Record for the longest ramp jump in a four wheeled conveyance came to an end yesterday as the driver suffered a massive crash in practice yesterday. The former competitive skier and rally car driver has been prepping to beat Faust’s standing record of 332 feet and has been hoping to smash the record by 30 feet more. Unfortunately, the only thing he managed to smash yesterday was his heavily modified MINI.

The Monster Energy and Toyo Tires sponsored car caught spectacular air off the jump, but the car dropped its nose just before landing causing the little jumper to do at least 6 or 7 endos before coming to rest.

According to his Facebook page, Chicherit is fine thanks to the safety equipment on board.

“Guerlain is doing good and has already reviewed video footage of the jump to see what went wrong. He got out of the car himself, slightly injured and will now get a precautionary MRI to check that everything is fine. Further updates to follow once information is released.”

Unfortunately we didn’t get around to covering Pikes Peak this year, but we’re going to try to stay on top of the X Games.

While Ken Block has wowed the world with his wicked Subie slides lately, he’s not the only one who can wheel a rally car! Leading up to the X Games, Tanner Faust, Ford and Streetfire are workin’ hard to spread the smokey goodness that is the Ford Fiesta. Here’s to hoping that this short flick is just a teaser of what’s to come!

2009 Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta

Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday is an old cliche from the golden years of motor racing and car sales. Some folks just can’t see that in today’s politically correct, recessionary world. Fortunately, the folks at Ford have a deep history of sales resulting from wins so today’s news should not come as a surprise.

As part of their Fiesta Movement to build hype for the upcoming Ford Fiesta, Ford is entering 3 rally prepped Fiesta’s in the 15th edition of X-Games at the end of this month in Los Angeles. Prepared by Olsbergs Motor Sport Evolution race team, these 3 cars will be piloted by a trio of superstar drivers. The Olsbergs MSE branded car will be driven by Swedish IndyCar driver Kenny Brack while a pair of ROCKSTAR Energy Drink cars will be entered for drift star Tanner Faust and 10 time X-Games Moto X medal winner Brian Deegan.

Unlike traditional motorsports, X-Games is wildly popular with the video game generations, who are drawn by the extreme action of bikes, boards and rally cars. A win at X-Games pretty much guarantees interest from a whole new crowd of car buyers, a demographic which Ford desperately needs in the showrooms.

This post is our first for a contest Ford is hosting to invite non traditional media to a product launch later this month.
