As the father of a female racer, I’m stayin out of this one, but the boys at Cars! Cars! Cars! may have penned one of the greatest journalistic tags of all time:
Why do researchers hate men? How can it be that beer swilling, hamburger munching, nose picking shit heads are worse drivers than women.

Whe Honda brought out the Element a few years ago, the idea of a flat floor cargo area really excited us here in The Garage. Then they dropped the ball by making it only a 4 passenger vehicle. With a family of 5, that would leave the choice as to which kid gets strapped to the roof. Not gonna be very popular. Now, the folks at DC are rolling out the 2007 Dodge Nitro. Talk about hitting the nail on the head. Five passenger, tons of storage space and all the modern tech stuff we would expect these days. Let’s take an SXT, with the 6 speed manual and all wheel drive. Could be a plan.

Over in Europe, it sounds like VW had a contest with readers of AutoBild to choose the name for a new Golf SUV. The winner is Tiguan. I don’t get it.
The Tiguan is set to debut at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show.

Pope Benedict XVI seems to have won his very own treasure, but he didn’t need to search for all those pesky clues. Following a short ceremony at the Vatican, Volvo presented the current Catholic Chief with his very own Volvo XC90. Clad in dark blue, with light interior, the V8 powered Papal SUV has had some personal details added just for his emminence.
No word if Johnny Depp was in attendance.

World Car Fans have posted the latest picture of the new SUV that Nissan has been developing for the world market. Considered to be a baby sister to the Murano, it will likely be positioned against the BMW X3. European reports have this “world car” being powered by both gas and diesel engines. It will be interesting to see if we receive the diesel here in North America. They had better change the name before it lands on our shores though. Some people still can’t figure out how to pronounce Murano.

I’m not usually one to complain too much about gas prices. I drive an suv, mainly by choice, but partially because we need at least one vehicle with some cargo space and towing capacity. I refuse to drive a minivan on principle, not that a Quest gets any better gas mileage than an Xterra.
This morning, the low fuel light was on so I had no choice to stop and put in gas. Or perhaps I should say liquid gold!$1.02 a liter!! I put in $35 and it only filled the tank half way. This is freakin brutal. Of course Karting starts this weekend, so switching to a car won’t be happening any time soon.
To put all of this into perspective for all you American readers, there are roughly 4 liters to a gallon. At the current exchange rate, that works out to roughly $3.27 US dollars a gallon! A quick online search shows gas prices in Buffalo taday ranging from $2.52 to $2.85 a gallon. Buffalo is about an hour long drive from downtown Toronto.
Us Canadians are a quiet bunch who don’t freak out about stuff, but perhaps this is something we should start sounding off about.
