San Francisco auto racing memoirs 1950-1956

A lot of what I enjoy most about The GarageBlog is that anyone who enjoys automobiles whether it be late model, old school, muscle, antique cars or even the latest on luggage racks with lipstick holders, can find something for every need here. One minute we can ask ourselves what was the biggest news coming out of the Nascar circuit this year and the next we can be reading why we shouldn’t be buying a sports car from Germany. (Do they really make sports car in Germany?)

A bit of racing history: Edenvale Airport

Porsche 904 prototype to hit the auction block

porsche904.jpg

Back in the early sixties, Porsche was on a mission to the top of sports car racing. Along the way, they created some pretty incredible cars. One of the most successful was the 904, a coupe that proved to be a winner in the hands of the factory and privateers alike. Before there were customer cars though, there were 3 prototypes of the 1963 904 Carerra GTS. These little beasts were the first Porsches capable of overall wins & not just class wins.

Proto number 3 wasn’t raced too much and as a result has remained in excellent condition. This racing icon will go across the block at Christies on August 17th as part of the Pebble Beach festivities. It is expected to fetch somewhere in the neighbourhood of a half million US dollars.

Memorobilia week in The Garage

Over the next few days, we are on vacation here in The Garage. We’ll be out and about, hiking and paddling around different parts of Ontario and visiting Mosport for a bit of kart racing. To keep our readers somewhat entertained, Jaime is going to help out a bit by posting some memorobilia for me. We have some cool stuff coming your way including Can Am, Grand Prix, sports car racing and a really cool book of Achievement from Castrol.
