Video: C. Van Tune visits the history of SEMA

This week’s video from C. Van Tune gives us a short history of SEMA, the speed equipment trade show that has grown to become the most influential automotive tuning show on the planet.

FLD launches Garage419

Those enterprising lads over at Fast Lane Daily are kicking things up a notch with their video styles. They’ve launched a new video site called Garage419 which takes viewers closer to the dark side of the automotive world.

The first weekly shoot follows retired cross country racer Alex Roy against Matt Farah from New York Motor Club. It’s a cut throat race from New York to Paris, aboard highly tuned motorized vehicles. Will the victor be the Chief of Polizei, the mutton chopped madman or the monorail rent a cops?

Take That!

A few weeks back at SEMA Toyota gained fanfare when they unveiled the 2009 Matrix. I say fanfare because SEMA is not usually the venue to show off new OEM stock product. But Toyota did, and now Chevy unleashes the next salvo in LA, the 2009 Vibe, its head on challenger to the Matrix.

SEMA 2007: Pretty Ugly

The Tire and Wheel section of SEMA is a kaleidoscope of chrome and rubber. The problem is too much chrome and rubber can make you literally insane.

To protect show goers from firing off a few rounds from a sawed off, the wheel and tire gang provides buyers with beautiful girls, “sales associates” so to speak, and hot cars to break the monotony.

Video: Fast Lane Daily recruits Alex Roy to interview Alex Zanardi

The boys over at Fast Lane Daily invaded the SEMA show this week with gusto and came out with some killer content. First off, the super sweet Ashley Van Dyke has her way with Chip Foose and learn a little TV show secret. Next up, friend of The Garage, Alex Roy talks video games with the inspirational Alex Zanardi, who uses real world knowledge to take advantage of Grand Tourismo. You gotta give Herr Roy credit for asking some less than typical questions. To finish things off, Matt Farah from the New York Motor Club learns about the incredible Hartge M5 powered BMW M3 from Herbert Hartge.

Great show guys!

VOX Amazon at SEMA

vox3.jpg

Regular readers of The Garage know that I have somewhat of an obsession with old Volvos, especially of the 122 variety. Set in amongst the 3 C30’s is the VOX Amazon. Call it a 125 with a huge attitude. Like 600 hp worth of attitude! Mattias Volk’s killer 125 won the title of Sweden’s Hottest Volvo at a show in Landskrona Sweden last summer. Why not go one step further and crown it the World’s Hottest Volvo Wagon.

Pontiac Solstice Racer

A while back, The Garage showed you a shot of the Solstice Club racer concept that Pontiac showed at SEMA last fall. Now, it seems like the boys & girls at Pontiac have gotten serious about going racing.

A member at the Solstice forum was at a Pontiac event at Indy last weekend and snapped some shots of this SCCA SSB prepped Solstice. He noted that the car had a full cage, Sparco racing seat and was devoid of street stuff like air bags. Interestingly, ten minutes later, the car was gone and everyone in the area had developed amnesia.
Race car? What race car?
Great find, I can’t wait to see the Solstice vs. Miata wars that are sure to erupt all over North America.
