With Formula 1’s return to Canada coming up on June 13th, the folks at Red Bull Racing are doing a bit of their own promotion for the Canadian round. What better way to promote F1 in Canada than to mount up some studded tires and take a Grand Prix car out for some fun on a frozen lake.
Red Bull Racing has taken an STR1, powered by a 10 cylinder Cosworth engine and fitted it with special Bridgestone Potenza F1 snow tires. This one off set of rubber has 420 tungsten studs on each front tire and 588 of them on the rears. Scuderia Torro Rosso driver Sebastien Buemi strapped himself in for some fun. Not only did he lap the frozen Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, but he also headed out onto a frozen lake to have a crack at a game of pond hockey.
This is some pretty cool stuff! Video after the break.
