We’ve got some big news here in The Garage. Occasional contributer and part of The Garage family, Petri Ranta has joined the Cameron Motorsports team as Operations Manager at Mosport. Petri will be joining Wrex Roth, who will continue on as the guru of all things technical.
Petri brings close to 30 years of karting experience as a driver, tuner and data acquisition specialist, not to mention 3 Canadian national karting championship wins.

During the years surrounding World War 2, thousands of Canadian and American soldiers discovered the joys of sports car racing while stationed abroad. Upon their return home, many of them decided that racing should continue here. The only problem was there were no race tracks here. The solution? Old air bases. The Canadian and American governments had these little training fields all over the landscape that were no longer needed. Sports Car racing as we know it in North America was born.

This is the way it used to be. Race entry info and supplementary regs photostated and folded, all blurry and easily stained. Fortunately, this one has been kept in great condition. Harewood Acres was one of many WW2 air fields around North America that were turned into makeshift race tracks as sports car enthusiasts discovered road racing. Harewood Acres was an important place in the early days of racing in Ontario. Drivers like Roger Pense, Peter Ryan and Bob Holbert raced there in early Porsche RSK’s.
