When you work in the retail side of the car industry, visiting your manufacturer’s head office is sort of like Vegas. What happens there stays there. In other words, cameras aren’t usually welcome and discussions aren’t repeated. Fortunately for our readers this week, The Garage cameras were allowed to take some shots of a bit of a rare beast. Rare here in North America at least.

Ford Launches Hi-Po F-150 Harley Davidson

frd2007052331339_pv.jpg

This summer, Ford and Harley Davidson are kicking things up a notch with their new truck. The new 2007 F-150 Harley Davidson can be optioned with a twin screw Saleen supercharger, the same as the GT500 uses. A dual stage water to air intercooler keeps things cool and a free flowing exhaust adds the prerequisite growl. All this adds up to a whopping 450 hp and 500 pounds-feet of torque from the 5.4 liter V8.

Of course the styling includes 22 inch wheels, special striping and lots of chrome to create the Harley image. This is the ninth version of the Harley-Ford truck since the first one in 1999 and may well become the most sought after.

Maryland Politician Wants To Ban Truck Nuts!

truck-nuts.JPG

When they first move into the world of government, most politicians have an idealistic view of the brave new world they will help create. One such nut is Maryland delegate LeRoy E. Myers Jr. who wants to singlehandedly massage remove the nuts from pickup trucks all over his fine state.

You know the ones, those saggy bagged gonads that swing from redneck’s pickups and come in every colour of the rainbow. Hey, maybe that’s a new market…Rainbow Nuts! Maybe we should set up a booth at next year’s pride parade!

2008 Dodge Dakota

apdcx0883.jpg

Remember the first Dakota? It was one of the first mid size pickups, maybe even the first. Much larger than the little offerings from Japan, but much smaller than the full size trucks of it’s domestic cousins. It was a great truck for the small contractor who wasn’t carrying a huge load or towing much more than a utility trailer. The new 2008 Dakota has been revealed and it certainly exceeds anything those old trucks could do. It even beats most of the basic half tons from the eighties too. This thing has a tow rating of a whopping 7,050 pounds, all the while carrying the whole family in four door comfort. It looks great too.

Get all the details from Dodge and tons of photos after the break.

Street Use Blog - Real Life Mad Max

Iraqtruck1.jpg

Kevin Kelly, from WIRED has launched a new blog called Street Use, showcasing some of the best hoonmobiles across the planet. Maybe the coolest (or most frightening) are the Iraqi gun pick ups. American pick ups that have been modded with bullet plate glass, run flat tires and turrets. Mel Gibson must be jealous.

Do you know what your boss drives?

30_Teran_big.jpg

It used to be pretty easy to find the boss’s car in the parking lot. Just look for the Caddy, Lincoln or maybe a 5th Avenue. Over the last few years though, the parking lot picture seems to have changed a bit. What do we expect to see now? A big Benz, or maybe a 7 series BMW? That’s not the real deal, according to a recent survey by cars.com where they found that Chevy owners outnumber Mercedes owners. In fact, the average purchase price of CEO’s primary vehicle is about 25 grand. The story also has some interesting thoughts on colour.
