1987 SCCA F Production Champion Jim Knerr is also a bit of a photography buff. Fortunately for our readers, Jim took some time away from his 68 Sprite on occasion to shoot a few racing photos. As he has dusted off some of his old shots, Jim came across some photos of Paul Newman (aka PLN) in action.
A visit to Jim’s Flickr page is a must do, as not only is there a bunch of racing stuff, but he has some killer warbird shots as well.
Thanks for sharing the memories.

Big screen legend, Paul Newman has passed away at 83 years of age.
While the general public will remember Newman’s acting talents, many will remember another side of him. The Racer. With success on track as a driver and off track as a team owner, Newman had a passion for life and racing that stayed with him till the end. As recently as this past summer, he visited Lime Rock Park to take his last turn behind the wheel of a race car.
We have lost a shining star.

“I don’t want to sound conceited, but I don’t think there has been an actor or celebrity-turned-racecar driver that has made it as high up on the racecar circuit as I have. So I don’t think there’s anyone who can keep up with me. And that’s just me being honest.”
What a turd!
Obviously young Frankie has no clue of those who have preceded him. May he have the good fortune to podium at Sebring or to win at Datyona when he’s 70 or even to pilot a Trans Am car to a top 5 in the rain at 80!
Or perhaps the young B-lister thinks his accomplishments are more meaningful.
Ah to be young and foolish again!

How often have we seen headlines like the one above? Too often. How many times have you been trapped behind an oldster doing 25 in a 40 zone and you can’t get past. I’d be willing to bet that some obscenity crossed your lips along with something along the lines of get off the road you old coot. That old coot is somebody’s grandma or grandpa. They’ve probably never had an accident, or maybe they have, but either way they are a bit of a menace.
