The eagle eyed among you may have noticed a new detail on a few things around The Garage. It should be pretty easy to spot in the above shot.
See it?
Our man on the east coast, Paul Chenard has created a new logo for The Garage that is just full of flaming coolness. Not only does this help us brand our images, but it gives us something to work with on ball caps, toques (yes, some of us are Canadian) and even screen onto some tee shirts somewhere down the road.
You can keep tabs on Paul’s work at his blog and then once the bug bites you can give him some of your hard earned dough at Automobiliart.com
Canadian motorsports artist Paul Chenard has become somewhat of a fixture around The Garage over the past year or so. Paul’s artistic talents are only matched by his enthusiasm for the history of racing. His latest endeavor has been to combine some of his works into a short video, with a soundtrack that I suspect was recorded at last year’s VARAC Festival at Mosport.
Paul is always busy creating new images that continue to blow all of us behind the scenes in The Garage, so we’re going to begin showcasing a new one of Paul’s sketches every week. For now, check out the short video and then visit the link for Automobiliart at the top right of the page to get your own images for the den.
There was a time when race cars were finished in the colours of the nation from which they hailed. National pride often ebbed and flowed when the national colours were winning or losing. Back in those days, the Grand Prix cars boasted magnificent engines that were as much mechanical works of art as they were the heart of a racing car.
Good friend of The Garage, Paul Chenard has recently completed a limited edition series that captures the essence of this era of machinery. The premium archival Giclee prints measure 14.5′x 11′ and will be limited to a run of 125. They are available for $100 cdn each or an even better deal of $325 for all 4 plus shipping. They can be ordered by clicking on the Automobiliart button at the top right of this page.
Above is the Maserati 250F and the rest of the series can be seen after the break Continue reading →
Car art is one of those things that every enthusiast loves, but often won’t buy for themselves. Here in The Garage, we are all obsessed with automotive images. One of our fave artists has to be our man on the east coast, Paul Chenard. His unique, laid back style captures the colour and style that was racing in the glory days. Best of all, Paul has a bit of fun with his work and is more than happy to create usable works of art like greeting cards and T-shirts.

The 2007 VARAC Festival at at Mosport, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Canadian Grand Prix got under way yesterday, under sunny skies. Today has dawned sunny as well, so I’m about to slap on some sunscreen and hit the road. If you are in Southern Ontario, you should do the same, as there is going to be some great racing!
We spoke with artist Paul Chenard last night and he had a busy day peddling his wonderful creations, so we are pretty excited for him.
The photo above is from the 2006 festival. This year, we are armed with our new camera and a couple of empty SD cards, so plan to see a ton of photos over the next few days.
So are we going all retail on you, our regular readers? Well, not really. Paul Chenard has had a bit of a slow road getting his own E store up and running. Here in The Garage, we just happened to have an existing E store that was sitting more or less dormant. Why not help out a fellow Canadian motorsports enthusiast who is mucho talented.

Between working in the car industry and working on The Garage, I’ve been lucky enough to meet some pretty cool people. One of the most recent is artist Paul Chenard. He lives in the east end of Canada and so doesn’t have instant access to the automotive memorabilia centers here in the center of the universe. Never one to turn down a visit to an automotive toy store or two, I offered to help spread the word around Toronto. Paul sent me a bit of a care package to help me along the way and it arrived just in time for Easter in The Garage.
Photos (especially my feeble ones) don’t convey how great these images look. Paul has done a wonderful job and has some mad creative talents that may just move his name into the forefront of automotive art. Paul’s latest project has been a series of images celebrating Phil Hill’s achievements with Ferrari. The limited number of these is currently in the hands of the American Champion waiting to be signed. Once signed, they will be available through Race Legends. Continue reading →
It’s pretty rare to find someone who shares the same artistic sense of racing history that we have here in The Garage. Today, thanks to the world of the internet I met Paul Chenard. The Cobra Daytona on the front page of his current site just jumped out at me, as it’s done in a similar style to the image my tattoo is based on. A browse around his site shows a great collection of classic racing images that obviously have influenced Paul’s own art.
Soon enough, Paul will have a new home site, set up to sell his work. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s up. Continue reading →
