Next up on the incentive train: Nissan Canada

nissan-logo.jpg

Breaking news! Nissan Canada is the latest manufacturer to offer incentives for cash buyers. Unlike some of the other manufacturers, the Nissan crew seems resolved to keep buyers in Canadian showrooms and have offered a more meaningful package.

Let’s do a little comparison shall we? According to the web sites, the Altima 2.5s sedan starts at $24,498 in Canada and $20,080 south of the border. Cash purchasers can take advantage of a $2,000 incentive. While that still leaves a $2,418 gap, it’s not enough to send people south unlike yesterday’s news.

Today Audi Canada announced that it will offer consumers additional incentives for cash buyers in an effort to turn the tide of consumers who are staying away from Canadian showrooms. The incentives are as follows:

GM Canada Wants to Give it Away

General Motors might be entering the financial abyss after showing a 38+ billion dollar setback a few days ago, but that is not stopping the company from offering a new round of Canadian incentives.

General Motors of Canada earlier today announced that, building on strong October sales growth and its” hot new vehicle lineup”, (straight out of their press release. My opinion is a little more staid) the company is introducing a series of new price incentives to augment its already highly competitive lease and finance rates. Effective today, GM Canada will:

- Cover a 1% GST reduction for all of our cash and finance customers until the new GST rate takes effect on January 1, 2008. - Offer new cash incentives ranging from $1,500 up to $10,000 on select models, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Corvette, GMC Yukon and all of our 2008 Saab models.

Cross Border Chopping: Volvo is next carmaker to slash Canadian prices

volvo-iron-logo.jpg

Following this morning’s news that Chrysler is hitting hard with sales incentives, Volvo has announced that they too are interested in keeping Canadian consumers in Canadian showrooms. Unlike some other manufacturers however, Volvo is offering cash incentives to all new Volvo buyers. That’s right, even on financed or leased vehicles.

To give you an idea, a base S40 in Canada retails for $31,495. Subtract the $3,250 in savings and that comes to $28,245. Still not quite as thrifty as the US price of $24,365 but it is a good start and is close enough that it will keep many buyers from making a run for the border.
