Carnival of Wheels: Edition #27

cow5.jpg

Welcome to the Canada Day edition of the Carnival of Wheels! It’s been a busy couple of weeks in The Garage. We are in the middle of three weeks of track action and we’ve picked up a new to us SUV, so our work here in The Garage has been pretty self centered. Don’t worry though, our selfish posting will continue, as there are still tons of photos yet to be edited from the VARAC festival and next weekend is a double header. First we’ll have 2 days in the pits at the Steelback Grand Prix for Champ Cars and then on Sunday, Miss Shelby has her first race of the season. Elsewhere online, autobloggers have been busy churning out all manner of hot content, so sit down, strap in and get ready for a smoking hot lap of the blogosphere while you watch the French Grand Prix.

First up we’ve got another visit from Hello Kitty Hell, with a truly frightening tuner mod. This poor guy’s wife has actually installed this happy feline exhaust tip on their car! Be afraid, be very, very afraid.

Captain Kirk: Unsafe at any speed

fastcarsmyspace.jpg

If you’ve ever heard some of Bill Shatner’s singing efforts, you know that there isn’t much funnier than Captain Kirk stoned off his ass singing Lucy in the sky with diamonds. Until now that is. Shot for the new ABC series Fast Cars & Superstars, this in car footage of Willi Shat is an instant classic.

Armygeddon: Recruiting Aussie Style

armygeddon.jpg

In North America we see the US Army splattered across NASCAR and NHRA venues, one conventional race cars. That’s pretty cool, but it’s just sponsorship. The folks Down Under do things a bit differently. The 6 wheeled, $350,000 Land Rover was built by the Aussie military to entice recruits. Those rear tires are being reduced to rubber dust by a 700 hp 7.0 liter Chevy.

ESPN Acquires Jayski.com

sold.JPG

It looks like another case of if you can’t beat em, buy em. NASCAR authority jayski.com has been gobbled up by ESPN. Really this is just another example of traditional media accepting the fact that sometimes the little guy does a better job of staying abreast of a topic than they do.

New Cars Movie Gallery

One of our readers favourite posts from the archives are the photos we took of Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera when they visited the NASCAR Speed Park at Vaughan Mills Mall. We’ve taken these pics and added them to a nice new gallery, rather than the old Flickr page. Enjoy.

Edit: With the new version of Wordpress, we can now offer the gallery right here!

One fast baby: Quick sign him up for the 2025 NASCAR Season!

lg_baby-racer-motorsport.jpg

We’ve all heard of someone who had a baby that just didn’t want to wait till the hospital before seeing the light of day. There are more than a few stories of kids creeping out in the car, taxi, bus, but I don’t recall too many hi speed baby stories.

Some of us have a hard enough time sipping coffee at 60. Wisconsin’s Jereme Tauer managed to keep his Neon on the road at 90-100 miles per hour, while supporting his new son’s head as he sped down the birth canal!

Four Ford Drivers Discuss Tonight’s Shootout

boris-said.jpg
How does Boris fit all of that inside a helmet?

Courtesy of the Ford Media folks, we have this interview of four of the Ford drivers leading up to tonight’s Bud Shootout. My personal take on the season is that somewhere along the line Boris’ skill and professionalism is going to shine and the good old boys are going to start giving way to Sasquatch!

There will be four Ford teams competing in Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout. David Gilliland, Boris Said, Ken Schrader and Greg Biffle all spoke about the start to the 2007 season during yesterday’s NASCAR media day.

GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 Ameriquest Ford Fusion — DOES THE BUD SHOOTOUT MEAN MORE TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM SINCE EVERYTHING IS PRETTY MUCH NEW? HOW IMPORTANT IS IT FOR YOU GUYS? “I think it’s really important for us. We have a pretty decent race car, but not our best race car for the Bud Shootout. We wish it was our best race car, but we’re saving what we feel is our best car for the 500, but I think we’re definitely gonna see how the track handles with this tire that we’re gonna be on. I’m not saying it’s a lot different, but year-to-year we’ll see how this tire acts and get a pit stop and get a little bit of a run on it, see how far we can go on fuel even though it will be different engines, different carburetor, we’ll still get a basic idea. So this is important for us.”
