Jessi Lang meets a vintage T/A Chevy

August 14, 2014 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

jessi

Driving an Infiniti. To a Mazda sponsored track. To drive a Chevy. Gotta love the little ironies that working in automotive media throws at us sometimes!

After spending a year in rehab following a devastating car accident, Jessi Lang takes the bull by the horns so to speak with her first automotive assignment. As part of Motor Trend’s lead up to the Monterey Historics, Lang had the opportunity to take a couple of hot laps around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in a full on ’69 Camaro Z/28 from the glory days of the Trans Am series. Sadly, a couple was all she got in, as the beast clocked in at 113 db, which is above the sound limits at the track.

Even though my Dad raced an AMX and not a Camaro, I am oh so jealous!

This photo was taken a couple of days ago in Death Valley by one of the Motor Trend family. And I thought gas was expensive here in Toronto at $4.36 a gallon!

We had an interesting discussion at the Motor Trend Radio Detroit Auto Show studio today with J Mays. J is the Ford Group President of Design and Chief Creative Officer.

J was talking about Ford’s commitment to bring a B Class car to the North American marketplace. In Ford parlance, their definition of a “B Class” is anything smaller than a Focus.

Lose a billion or so, garner a Motor Trend Car of the Year award. It’s been that kind of an upside down year for the General. But 2008 might get off to a positive bang with odds in the favor of GM to win the prestigious North American Car and Truck of the Year awards.

In what is shaping up as a really strong ’08 model year for GM, the automaker has already won several significant awards for the Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac CTS.

VW might have you step on the bus again

December 2, 2007 by Jeff Bressler 1 Comment

I reported on Motor Trend Radio this weekend that Volkswagen has the lofty ambition of putting together an arsenal of vehicles that will place it in the position to be a formidable competitor to Toyota. If that’s the case they better start cracking. Their ultimate goal is to triple sales in the U.S. over the next ten years.

VW has believed in partnerships in the past. The German automaker has previously teamed up with Porsche to develop the Touareg SUV, which shares a platform with the Porsche Cayenne.

Publisher Robert E. Petersen Passes Away at 80

Automotive enthusiasts the world over should note the passing yesterday of Robert E Petersen after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Petersen was an individual who has touched every single car nut in North America, possibly the world. His publications included Hot Rod, Motor Trend and Car Craft along with a whole host of niche mags. Perhaps the crown jewel of his accomplishments is the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
