mitsu-jeep-7.jpg

When you spend your day in a new car dealership, it’s not often you see any really different vehicles. So today, when Vijay Parany from JDM Cars arrived in a 1991 Mitsubishi Jeep, we all noticed.

Now many of you will say, as I did that Mitsubishi and Jeep have nothing to do with each other. You would be wrong. I was too.

When you work in the retail side of the car industry, visiting your manufacturer’s head office is sort of like Vegas. What happens there stays there. In other words, cameras aren’t usually welcome and discussions aren’t repeated. Fortunately for our readers this week, The Garage cameras were allowed to take some shots of a bit of a rare beast. Rare here in North America at least.

First Drive: 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT

eclipse.jpg

Over the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to spend some time in some world class sports cars. I’ve been really lucky in that I’ve spent a lot of time driving the Nissan 350Z, a car so good for it’s price range that cars worth twice as much are often compared to it.

So what does this have to do with my first drive in the 2006 Eclipse GT? Well, unfortunately I’ve become pretty jaded and my expectations have been set pretty high. This isn’t a good thing for any sports car that doesn’t keep up with the class. So does the Eclipse GT measure up? Well, yes & no.

Little Horsepower = Big Fun

bugeye.JPG

Years ago I remember reading a Peter Egan story about his love of the Bugeye Sprite. There was a bit in there about how much fun the little cars were to drive. You could race through an intersection at full opposite lock, at 35 mph and nobody would even notice that you were having the time of your life.

Today, Tom Ford over at Top Gear is telling the same tale:
Now I’ve come to the conclusion that I actually really get off on strange little cars that require more driver input.
