From the kool corner of The Garage comes the latest in an ever growing line of killer equipment. Herr Von Minden has been doing the paint work on this super rare 1958 Dodge Regal Lancer. I don’t know too much (anything really) about the 58 Regal Lancer, but it certainly looks related to that 58 Fury made famous by Hollywood.
Too kool. More pics after the break

Well, its no secret that the current clad Corolla is well over-due for its model year makeover. Toyota has now hung onto the current design, extending the conforming, utilitarian, and conservative (read: boring) outlook for 2 extra years. In some circles I have heard this to be a really interesting strategy:
1. Civic/Mazda3/Lancer are all enjoying a facelift late 2005 Impreza hits the scene in new-dapper present, mid-2006.
2. Celica is retired, RSX is hung, Civic SIR/TypeR is introduced in respective domestic markets, WRX/STI/MazdaSpeed3 readily available
3. Yaris making a nill impact with the dealership offered ‘aero package’ For those that absolutly unaware of Toyota’s new “flagship” sports compact, let me paint you a picture:

Yes, get a good look at that rear. This thing doesn’t have enough horses for you to see it again once you’ve passed it.
WTF is up with Toyota? are they too busy ENJOYING WORLD DOMINATION WITHOUT A SPORTS CAR? WTF???????

Mitsubishi has released further details about the upcoming Concept-cX, their next generation SUV concept. The exterior of the Concept-cX shares strong corporate design cues at the front, where the hood and grill lines mimic the 2008 Lancer. The roofline is reminiscent of the current model Outlander. Elsewhere in the vehicle, Mitsubishi is showing their dedication towards building greener vehicles. The planned powerplant is a high efficiency 1.8 liter, high output, turbocharged diesel which is mated to Mitsubishi’s new twin clutch sport shift transmission. Perhaps the most eco friendly element is the interior plastic, which is quite literally, green. Made with plant based resins, Mitsubishi’s revolutionary plastic is intended to reduce impact on petroleum supplies.

This morning Mitsubishi revealed a few more details regarding a pair of new models for the Japanese home market. The Lancer we see here in North America will be rebadged as the Galant Fortis. The official name for the beastly rally sedan is the Lancer Evolution X.
They are still teasing us by not releasing performance figures for the Evo’s drivetrain. Mitsubishi has confirmed that the 2.0 MIVEC engine turn all 4 wheels through a six speed automated manual transmission.

It’s good to see the new tin being pushed so soon! Japanese drift modul Taro Koki is living and working in the States these days and spent some time at Gymkhana USA last weekend. While he was there, he had Dai Yoshihara from the Rockstar/Nitto drift team put the 08 Lancer through it’s paces. Taro promises there is video to follow.
