Video: Laborghini Murcielago R-GT

lambo-rgt.jpg

There are times when Euro supercars just make me shake my head. The incredible sounds emanating from this Lightweight Lambo could just as easily be from a F1 car rather than from a road based coupe. Turn the speakers way up and prepare to be amazed.

After the break of course:

It rides like a million bucks

la_auto_show_lambo_reventon_image_main.jpg

Talk about supercars! With a price tag of $1.4 million, the 20 Lamborghini Reventon’s that were produced are totally sold out. If you were wondering why the rich and famous have clamored to this car maybe it has something to do with little things like a 6.5 liter V12 that produces 640 horsepower, or the fact that your Reventon can take you from 0 to 60 in just 3.4 seconds. Oh, I forgot to mention, before you sign the check, a top speed of over 210mph.

Video: Alex Roy und zee Lambo hit zee vall

Those of you who have read your copy of The Driver already know that Herr Roy suffered more than a little embarrassment when he planted a brand spanking new Lamborghini into a wall. I’m sure that the sting has subsided a little in the past 3 years, but this video I just came across must cause Alex’s eyes to burn.

More details from Nick Morley

Yesterday we received a comment from the family of Nick Morley. In it, a good chunk of the haze surrounding the crash that occurred in Macedonia during the Gumball event has been cleared up. I thought it was worth posting on it’s own, as it’s too valuable to be lost in the comments section.

As we’ve said before, this case is an important landmark for the rally community. I can’t recall if there has ever been such a high profile situation where a competitor has been involved with a non competitors vehicle. It’s a shame that someone somewhere seems bent on setting a false example of a member of our community.

Letter after the break.

Audi Displays the New Über Quattro in Toronto

r8-front-bw-crop.jpg

Quattro. The name evokes thoughts of white, yellow and black Group B rally cars cresting wet yumps at the 1000 Lakes Rally, or drifting past stone houses in the hills above Monaco. With the evolution of the Quattro, that beast has become known as the über Quattro. Every AWD Audi since has been a Quattro, but never as outrageous as that early Eighties monster. Until now.

Audi has combined modern German technology with German/Italian motivation to create the ultimate road going Audi. Audi’s Quattro system, aluminum construction and a high revving V8 shared by Lamborghini, this really may be the new über Q. Time will tell if this model will back up the motorsports dominance that the original Quattro displayed. What is certain, is that Audi has built a hyper performing, road holding new über Quattro that could be an equally important part of the Quattro legend.

Lamborghini to set up shop in India too

Following last week’s news that Volvo is set to begin selling in India, Lambo has begun selling the Gallardo, Gallardo Spider and Murcielago there. The initial sales target of 10 cars a year certainly seems attainable in a country of over a billion people. In fact, they have already sold 6 cars and delivered 2.

New Lamborghini Miura at Goodwood

DSC_2344-t.jpg

Over at Pistonheads, they are reporting that the Lamborghini Miura Concept may be coming closer to production. While many people dislike the retro design trend, I think there are some timeless shapes that are worth working with. The Miura is one of those shapes. Reported to be based on the Audi Lemans coupe, the Miura will be powered by a 700 hp Lambo V12 that drives all 4 wheels. It may appear in early 2007 at a cost in the 300,000 lb area, with production limited to only a few hundred.

There is a guy in my neighbourhood who drives an original and it’s always a pleasure to see, not to mention hear. I’m looking forward to seeing this one reach production.
