The kind folks at Go Fast Energy Drink have put together a quick, short video of Gary, Jon & Lucky from La Carrera. This is a nice little teaser of what’s to come.
One observation. In Mexico, the crowds are happy to pass a cold beer to teams as they reach the end of a stage. While we don’t get that in Ontario, I will say that there is absolutely nothing like having a course worker put a pair of ice cold cans (of anything) through the passenger window at the end of a stage!
Funny thing about the differences between some rally events. Here in Canada, we are very proud of our Targa Newfoundland and teams come from all over the world to race around The Rock. South of 2 borders, the Mexicans are equally proud of their La Carrera Pananmerica. A quick glance around the Gootoobz yesterday produced very little of quality Targa content. La Carrera however is a totally different beast. Almost daily we are seeing new videos, many of which are really good quality. I’m thinking that we need more film crews in Newfoundland next year, but for now let’s see the latest cool La Carrera video.
It’s been a long day here in The Garage, meaning it’s a going to be a lazy evening. How better to enjoy a lazy evening than by watching some killer La Carrera video.
Both here in The Garage and over in Lucky’s blog, Gary Faules has told us a lot about good friend Gerie Bledso who played a big part in Gary’s decision to take Team CBR to La Carrera Panamerica. Two years ago, Gerie suffered and incredible crash in the race. Now that I’ve seen this frightening footage, it is a testament to a strong cage and more than a bit of luck that Gerie and his co-piloto weren’t hurt more seriously than broken arms.
The following documentary is in French, but the incredible visuals need no interpretation. The footage of Gerie’s multiple rolls begins at 43:52. As you can see, its a long video, so grab a coffee! Continue reading →
As much fun as we had on this adventure I don’t think I have ever enjoyed saying, “Honey I’m home.” as much as I did this time. Make no bones about it… when someone tells you the La Carrera Panamericana is a rally and not a race, they haven’t got a clue what the hell they’re talking about. When was the last time you heard of someone passing another car on a narrow two-lane hi-way at 160 miles per hour? If that’s a rally I want no part of it. Who am I kidding? I live for this stuff.
To drive in a historical race such as this one and see your name in print up there with the likes of Phil Hill, Juan Fangio and many more, let alone run against 100 of the most beautiful cars in the world not to mention many of the top rated drivers from all over the world, well let’s just say it’s about as surreal as it gets. I am still having to pinch myself every time I wake up and ask myself if it’s true. Continue reading →
This time, we have in car. The visual isn’t too exciting, it’s just 2 minutes of watching the cool as a cucumber co-driver of car #115. The sound track is just amazing. It’s interesting to watch when the revs stay way up for a while, the camera stops focusing. Too cool.
Ok, this is just too good to pass up! We’ll have to get the full story from Gary Faules, but the owner of this beast has posted a ton of video. The sound of this beast is unbelievable!
Team CBR is going to provide us with some of the most incredible HD video of La Carrera, but it’s going to take some time before it is edited and produced. As I just can’t bear to wait any longer for video from La Carrera, I’ve been scouring Youtube looking for video and just came across these absolutely incredible clips of a big bad Buick in action. You MUST crank up the speakers and be prepared for some v8 scream!
