As I’m on vacation this week, I’m taking things a bit easy here in The Garage. That’s right, no challenging posts, nothing that takes more than a few minutes. Photos are fun and every gearhead loves some cool pics.
For some reason, I’ve become drawn to helmets and the way they are just dropped around the pits. Sat on a nice shelf, plunked down on top of the car or tossed into the seat, they all look pretty cool. Not to mention the pros expensive lids offer up some cool ideas for us not so pros when it comes time to paint our own lids. These shots were taken around the pit lane at Lime Rock a few weeks ago.
One of our fave artists here in The Garage, Coop, has taken some time away from his muses (or should that be musi?) to spend some time painting dots. These aren’t just any dots though. This dizzying blur of red, white and blue dots melds together at a distance to become an American motorcycling icon.
As always, very cool Mr. Cooper. Very cool indeed.

First up, we have the super scary crash where Manfred’s Formula 2 car takes flight off a rise at the old Nurburgring. Remember that once the car begins to roll, it’s going through fencing. To give you an idea of how close this could have been, watch the visor on his helmet as he exits the car. He obviously caught the fence in his face.
As other activities wind down for the season, we are about to begin our kart racing season. For our newest racer, affectionately known as The Dude, that means some new safety equipment of his own was in order. Continue reading →
