Ayrton Senna will always be considered one of the finest drivers ever to compete in Formula 1. In fact he stood upon the top spot of the podium at Monaco, the crown jewel of F1, no fewer than 6 times. The 2007 edition of the famed Monaco event takes place this coming weekend and marks the twentieth anniversary of Senna’s first win on the historic circuit. There is a whole host of events planned to celebrate the occasion.

Midland F1 Cars On Display at Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame

2006-midland-f1.jpg

While much of the world thought of the Midland Formula 1 team as a Russian operation, in reality it’s owner, Alex Shnaider is a Toronto guy. In an exciting move, Shnaider has lent 2 of the Midland F1 team cars to the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame. Located inside Legendary Motorcar, the CMHF has a nice collection of significant Canadian race cars. Now, these two modern cars share space with the Wolf WR1 F1 car that was driven by Jody Scheckter.

Clay Regazzoni Killed in Road Accident

regazzoni1.jpg

Formula 1 legend Clay Regazzoni was killed this week in a collision with a truck in Parma, Italy.

Regazzoni had a Formula 1 career that spanned 11 years, with 5 wins. He drove for Ferrari, Ensign and Shadow. He also scored the first ever win for the young Williams team. His time in F1 ended with a spinal injury in a crash at Long Beach in 1980. Regazzoni went on to race in a variety of sports car endurance races and the Paris-Dakar desert raid in vehicles equipped with hand controls.

It’s rather ironic that such a talentend driver could survive decades of racing, only to be killed on the street. Clay Regazzoni’s spirit will be missed.

2006 GP2 Champion Lewis Hamilton has landed the number two seat for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 team, alongside World Champion Fernando Alonso. Starting his career at age 9 in karts, Hamilton has been groomed for F1 by McLaren since way back in 1998. That gives the 21 year old a whopping 12 years of racing experience, with the last 9 years supported by McLaren and Mercedes. Talk about killer backing! The best equipment and driver’s coaches money can buy. Little wonder the kid shines! That said, you’ve got to wish him luck and hope he doesn’t get overshadowed by his team mate.

How and F1 Car Works

f1-car.jpg

Sometimes corporations surprise me. Often, a lot of the stuff that sponsors supply to race fans can be pretty lame. This time though, the folks from Shell have hit the nail onĀ  the head. Shell Motorsports is offering a booklet called How An F1 Car Works. When I ordered it, I half expected a lame pamphlet with a few pictures and some childish writing. What arrived in the mail this week was a slick little magazine, with tons of informative info and some great pictures. This one will please the adults and the kids.

Be sure to visit Shell Motorsports and order yours asap, before they run out. This one’s a keeper.

The strong finish rewarded Team Canada with it’s first front row start and

If a Schumacher Retires in Italy, Does Anybody Care?

schumachersept61.jpg

Let’s face it. Michael Schumacher is one of the most talented drivers that has ever lived. His list of records far exceeds anything anyone else has done, or likely will do. Is he one of the greatest? Not here in the eyes of The Garage. He may be one of the biggest jerks that the motor racing world has ever produced. Now that he has officially retired following the race at Monza, the sporting world is abuzz with the news.

Poor JV. He’s spent 10 years in Formula 1 and doesn’t feel he should have to be compared to some fast young lion, so he took his ball and went home.
