Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe has made a name for himself in every series he has entered. Most recently, Hinch finished in second place in the 2010 season points of the highly competitive Indy Lights series. That doesn’t tell the full story, as he was on the podium in 8 of 13 races and clinched the top spot 3 times.
Following the final round of last season, the Toronto area native impressed at a series of IndyCar tests with Newman/Haas Racing where he very quickly matched the pace of team regular Oriol Servia. The only barrier to Hinchcliffe securing a full time ride for his rookie season was funding.
It was announced this morning that a sponsorship deal has been put together with Sprott Inc. which is a Toronto based investment company. While Canada has produced several of the World’s top drivers over the years, corporate Canada has been slow to step up with backing for hometown performers. It is great to see company owner Eric Sprott acknowledge Canadian talent and take advantage of motor racing’s place on the world stage.
