Welcome to our second edition of On Track Today. This was my first visit to a lapping day organized by the folks at 6th Gear. A lapping day is just a lapping day until someone takes the human element into account. If you’ve ever been to a true Italian restaurant, where the owner is on the floor mingling with guests, ensuring that everything is just right, then you’ll have an idea how participants feel at a 6th Gear day.
The day begins with a continental breakfast, complete with fresh espresso in the most amazing kitchen that I didn’t even know existed in what used to be Mosport’s Formula 1 garages. The lapping is casual and newcomers have access to experienced instructors like our old friend Vito Scavone who has been racing in Canada for many years. The afternoon begins with a sumptuous lunch of assorted grilled meats, salads, pastas and even grilled eggplant that Nona would approve of. Participants both new and returning are welcomed the same as if they are arriving at a family BBQ.
