Video: Vintage F1 qualifying at VARAC Festival

It’s going to be a big day here in The Garage, as we head down the the Champ Car race so I thought it would be appropriate to post a video from Mosport. Youtube user FetishHose (nice handle) has posted the following video of qualifying taken from the front straight. While the video quality isn’t great, the sound is great. Turn up the speakers and fill your office with the sounds of a dozen Cosworth DFV powered F1 cars.

2007 Jim Clark Memorial Award Goes to TV Host

Named for the legendary Scottish driver, the Jim Clark Memorial Award is awarded annually to a Scottish citizen who has made a difference to motor racing. The 2007 recipient is TV host Lee McKenzie. 28 year old Lee has been chasing her journalistic dreams since the ripe old age of 15 and has covered F1, DTM, Porsche Supercup and currently is traveling with A1GP. She even got her WRC co-driver’s license and has competed in several WRC rounds, proving that she can put her knowledge of the sport to good use inside the car as well as on screen.

No more Cossie for Williams

It’s been close to 40 years since Cosworth started building engines for Grand Prix cars, specifically for Matra and Lotus. Now, British Formula 1 team Williams has confirmed that their cars will no longer be using Cosworth power. Williams have entered a 3 year contract with Toyota to run the same engine as powers the Toyota F1 car. This leaves only the Torro Rosso entry using Cosworth engines.

Cosworth Engines have scored World Championships with Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher, but have not scored a race win since Fisichella wond the Brazilian GP in 2003.
