Things have come a long way since this “good old boys” photo of an AMC design team working on a clay model was released in the early 60’s. Maybe American Motors would have had better success if their cars were actually made out of clay. Products such as the Gremlin, Pacer and Javelin while innovative, all had major holes that eventually lead to AMC falling through one, and finally shutting its doors in the 80’s.
Fast forward to 2007 where visitors to the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show will be able to watch a life-size “concept car” being sculpted out of clay. The final model will be completed on November 24th.

We’ve all caught a bit of the hype surrounding Chrysler’s Hornet concept vehicle, but as far as I’ve heard, there are no firm plans to produce it. At least not for the North American market.
In Chrysler’s press release on Monday regarding the First Day celebration it stated:
The festivities included a display of 11 current and soon-to-be-launched vehicles
In Chrysler’s media only blog The Firehouse, the above image surfaced along with the comment: Did anybody else notice….?
Does this mean that we might actually see the Hornet for sale here soon?

Last week, The Hamster spoke about his jet powered ride:
“We wanted to use the afterburners because essentially, if an ordinary car has about 100 horsepower, after you light the afterburners it has 10,000 horsepower.”
Oops…wrong car.
The 1958 Plymouth Tornado Concept just looks like it would be jet powered. In fact, the space program inspired Tornado is built on a 1958 Fury chassis (think Christine). Unlike the scary movie star, the Tornado is powered by a 318, mated to a push button automatic tranny. Having sat in a field for many years, the 48 year old one off has undergone a $150,000 US restoration and will go on the auction block at Red Baron on November 11.
