Mediterranean Muscle

cobra.jpg

Would you believe that this muscle concept christened the KC-427 is being built in Malta? No, not Malta, New York, but the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea.

I always enjoy looking at the designs of Racer X Design, but this one really caught my eye because of its Cobra styling and its mighty 7.0-litre V8 engine sourced from the Corvette Z06. A unique combination of style and power I would say.

It appears they will produce 20 hand built units of the KC-427. The roadster is set for completion next year. Kudos to these guys in Malta for nailing American Muscle style.

Gallery: Woodward Dream Cruise Part 1

The first images from the 2007 Woodward Dream Cruise have begun to trickle into The Garage. We’re a few days behind some of the other blogs, but there are a ton of images in this first submission alone. There are over 500 photos to sort though, so I’ll be a busy boy tonight. For now, let’s start things off with the beginning of the trip.

James and Rob Tong took their blue Mustang Cobra, along with other members of a couple of local Mustang clubs down for their annual trip to Woodward. The first stops were at Saleen and Roush, where they saw some pretty cool stuff.

More images from the Cruise later today.

Chasing Cheetah’s

2cheetahs.jpg

It’s funny sometimes how a forum thread can stir up a whole bunch of real world details! One of the forum members over at The Jalopy Journal’s H.A.M.B. found a Yeakel Bros license plate frame and asked about it’s history. The next thing you know, up pops Fred Yeakel with some real history and a great Cheetah website.

Artist Paul Chenard: Impressions of Speed

floor-014.jpg

Between working in the car industry and working on The Garage, I’ve been lucky enough to meet some pretty cool people. One of the most recent is artist Paul Chenard. He lives in the east end of Canada and so doesn’t have instant access to the automotive memorabilia centers here in the center of the universe. Never one to turn down a visit to an automotive toy store or two, I offered to help spread the word around Toronto. Paul sent me a bit of a care package to help me along the way and it arrived just in time for Easter in The Garage.

Photos (especially my feeble ones) don’t convey how great these images look. Paul has done a wonderful job and has some mad creative talents that may just move his name into the forefront of automotive art. Paul’s latest project has been a series of images celebrating Phil Hill’s achievements with Ferrari. The limited number of these is currently in the hands of the American Champion waiting to be signed. Once signed, they will be available through Race Legends.

2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR: The King of the Road Returns

mustanggt500kr_02.jpg

Carroll Shelby is one of the most recognized names in racing history, and for good reason. The cars he built in the Sixties took on the best the world had to offer and beat them. As a result of that, Mustangs of that era are immediately linked to the Shelby name due to their resemblance to the famed GT350. Even the regular run of the mill six cylinder cars carry a bit of that glory. The cars that actually bear the Shelby nameplate are inevitably worth a fortune thanks to the history of the brand that is Shelby.

The styling of the current body Mustang owes a lot to that heritage and has almost become an instant classic shape. Recent business problems aside, the marketing guys at Ford are no dummies. They know that the success of their brand depends on interpreting that history properly and that means exploiting the Shelby brand. How about a modern interpretation of the mythical GT500KR? A good idea? We think so, and so do the guys at Ford.

Just like the original KR was the pinnacle of Mustang horsepower back in ‘68, the 2008 GT500KR is the most powerful Mustang ever built, with an estimated 540 Clydesdales under a fancy composite hood. With only 1000 units being built versus 1053 of the original car, the new car could become ever more sought after in years to come.

Motorsports Artist: Paul Chenard

gt40-chenard.png

It’s pretty rare to find someone who shares the same artistic sense of racing history that we have here in The Garage. Today, thanks to the world of the internet I met Paul Chenard. The Cobra Daytona on the front page of his current site just jumped out at me, as it’s done in a similar style to the image my tattoo is based on. A browse around his site shows a great collection of classic racing images that obviously have influenced Paul’s own art.

Soon enough, Paul will have a new home site, set up to sell his work. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s up.

The Joy of Expression

cavtat_450.jpg

There is a reason that tattoo shops aren’t allowed to ink folks under 16 or 18 depending on where you are. Youth and stupidity go hand in hand. Case in point, the spud pictured above. A Chevy Cavalier of all things. This dude is doomed to stocking shelves in the local grocery store for the rest of his life.

I’ve been jonesin’ for a tatty for years, but have wanted to be sure that it was the right image. It had to be automotive art and it couldn’t look like that abomination above. It had to be something classic and tasteful.

Carroll Shelby’s Personal Cobra Sells For $5 Million

Photo from Drew Phillips at Fast-Autos

Amongst the world’s most incredible cars, there tends to be the odd one that stands out and becomes a legend among icons. One such car was the Shelby Supersnake. A twin supercharged 427 S/C that produces in excess of 800 horsepower. There were two Supersnakes. One was destroyed by another legend, Bill Cosby. The other one, pictured above is was Carroll Shelby’s personal ride.

Speed Shifting

shifter.jpg

As sometimes happens when things pile up around The Garage, it’s time to go into speed Shifting mode.

Over at Classical Drive, Phillip must have checked his mail today and found the same same glossy flyer I did. The master bathroom looks a little brighter today with the RM Auction Fall Classic auction book.

We’ve all seen those Cobra couches, but over at Autoblog they’ve found an even cooler bit of furniture. Delight your inner Steve with one of these awesome Porsche 917 inspired seating devices.

Marc at Full Throttle has a primer for this weekend’s Lexmark Indy 300 Down Under.

Back in the USSR, or the former…or whatever they call it these days, the Jalopnik crew has a cool Russian Rod.

Fall is football season and Ask Patty has the goods on what it takes to have a great tailgate party. We’re going to have to try the Tamale Pie.

In the Auto Park they somehow beat me to the latest news about the Nissan 350Z GT-S.

Motor Authority has an interesting list of their fave Homologation specials. You know, those cars that are built to justify the race cars. Somehow they’ve missed a few cool ones. The Shelby Cobra and the road going GT-40 are just two that come to mind.
