Carnival of Wheels: Edition #28

Another week has come and gone, and what a week it has been. We had 2 days at the Steelback Grand Prix, overloading on the sights and sounds and we had Miss Shelby’s first kart race of the season. Arrive & drive is great, it’s now 1:30 in the afternoon and we’ve had practice, qualifying, 2 races and we’re already back at home with the rest of the afternoon to enjoy! Or in my case, a few moments to work through this week’s CoW. Whatever you’ve been doing today, take a few moments to sit back with a cold one, tighten the shoulder straps and get ready for a hot lap around the blogosphere.

This week we have a couple of newcomers to the CoW. First up is Christian Personal Funds. Now it’s never occurred to me that the church would have even the slightest thing to do with cars, other than the occasional on track nirvana, but Christian PF has a maintenance plan that seems to work for him. The Spring and Fall maintenance concept has worked for many people over the years, but twice a year maintenance really depends on the mileage you drive and the climate you live in. For most of us here in the north half of North America, our climate is considered severe service and we should be thinking about a 3 month plan.

Spring finally seems to have arrived for real here in The Garage. Mamma G’s P5 has new summer boots, I’m cleaning out The Garage and today will be the 8 year old’s first time driving a go kart. On a track. I’m afraid. You’ll read more later about all 3 topics, but here’s a bit of a hint. We’re about to have our first ever contest in The Garage! For now though, grab a pail o java and let’s check out this week’s submissions to the CoW.

The Nextel Cup race in Texas last weekend was full of bumps and drama, and Brian from RaceDriven has the full scoop. One question though. Where the hell was Kyle Busch? Having a sit down with the latest Speed Sport News in the nearest porta john?

So we’ve woken up to the news that Paul Tracy has broken his back in practice for todays race in Long Beach. Let’s hope things go well for him and he’s back in the car soon. The Formula 1 grid is about to take the green in Bahrain, so let’s get rolling with the first couple of submissions.

Sporting a new look, Alborz from Australian Car Advice is tackling an age old beef. Does speeding really kill, or are our governments just trying to rid us of our hard earned dough?

Carnival of Wheels: Edition #13

The sun rose way too early here in The Garage today. Well, the sun really didn’t rise early, as it was rainy and crappy when I started into the Cow this morning. A couple of doses of hockey and a headache induced nap later and here I am finishing things off, now that the Car of Tomorrow has run it’s first race. We had some great submissions this week, so sit back with a cold one and enjoy this week’s Carnival of Wheels.

Would having diarrhea get you off a speeding ticket? I don’t know about that one, but the cop is sure to have a giggle. Over at WiseBread they are having a little bit of a contest to find the best lines to get out of a speeding ticket. They are even giving away a car for the best entry! I still think that nothing beats great cleavage and a tear or two.

Carnival of Wheels: Edition #12

Another week is done here in The Garage. We had what may just be the last big snowfall of the season, fortunately here in the little town of Whitby the white stuff melted by the end of the day. I hope all of you folks digging out in the Eastern US are just as lucky, it sounds like you had a lot more than we did. Something has changed for me and I’m having fun in the kitchen again. What does that mean here in The Garage? Well, nothing other than I spent yesterday afternoon making a giant pot of chili that Carroll Shelby would be proud of! And so, enough about my world, let’s get on with the Carnival of Wheels!

One of the leading causes of injury in a shop is the incorrect use of tools. The other of course is using the wrong tool for the job. Old friend of The Garage, Dorri from If it’s got an engine… has come to the realization that he’s been using adjustable wrenches backwards. Tsk Tsk Dorri. I would have thought you might pick up on this one in Engineering 101.

Carnival of Wheels: Edition #11

Wow, the sun is shining and the snow is melting. It’s beginning to feel a lot like spring outside The Garage. With the start of racing season only a few weeks away, spring really must be close. With warmer times coming, thoughts of spring break are in most peoples minds and car bloggers are no different. This Week’s CoW is a little bit light, as many folks are already gearing up for the family vacation. That’s OK though, because that means I’ll get back outside quickly, so let’s get on with it.

We love videos here in The Garage & the normally socially responsible folks at WiseBread have a sweet vid of some shopping mall hoonage. The dude is just crazy, drives into the closed mall, makes a few turns, and out the other side. He even did a driveby through the food court! Cool.

Carnival of Wheels: Edition #10

Can you believe that we’ve all been working together on the Carnival of Wheels for TEN editions already? It seems like we’ve only done a couple so far. I say we, because this puppy really is a group effort. Firstly, there is all the car bloggers who work hard to put together posts to submit each week. Some weeks, I’ve had more than 15 to read through, you’d be amazed how long that takes to read and comment on that many posts. Most importantly, there are the readers. Without you, none of our work would be worthwhile. Fortunately, we must be doing something right, as the readers keep coming back each week to get their fill. So, not wanting to disappoint, here we go…

At Driving Enthusiast, Jeff got all fired up about a post on TTAC earlier this week where Farago goes on about the whorification of the automotive media. Jeff takes the thought a few steps further when it comes to the challenges facing online media versus traditional print media.

Carnival of Wheels: coming later

Due to some site issues at the Blog Carnival main site, I can’t access the Carnival database, so I’m taking the boys for a hike in the sunshine instead! The CoW will be up at some point later today I hope.
