B.F. Goodrich launches Winter T/A KSI in Canada’s capital

March 14, 2017 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

Guest post by driving event coordinator Rick Morelli.

Last week at the Rockcliffe Flying Club in Ottawa, over 100 B.F. Goodrich tire dealers and 20 journalists had the opportunity to compare the Winter T/A KSI to its peers. Excitement marked the event all week. Changing weather conditions kept the event teams on their toes and the Red Bull Crashed Ice competitions provided a unique form of entertainment in the evening!

The B.F. Goodrich team carefully selected the Flying Club as a unique opportunity to be right in the City of Ottawa at the same time as the BFG sponsored Crashed Ice event was taking place. For those who have never been, the Flying Club is a runway away from the Canada Aviation and Space Museum which is a must see in Canadian aviation history.

Canadian X-Games star Andrew Comrie-Picard explains a driving exercise to participants.

Dealers and journalists had the opportunity to participate in both objective and subjective testing of the new tire to be released in September of 2017. Incidentally, the KSI was developed for the Canadian market showing its prowess in all of the dry, wet, snow and ice.

The 2017 Mazda 3 GT and the 2017 Honda CRV Touring were used to take the various tires through the paces thanks to Mazda Canada and Honda Canada. Performance Mazda of Orleans, Ontario provided logistics support for the vehicles.

BFG made ice and moved a lot of snow last week! Temperatures went from 10C to -32C (with the wind). The KSI ate it all up.

“It’s like a luge course at the Olympics out here at Sno*Drift…. bumpers and car parts all over the stages. And it’s only stage 4!”

Wow!

How do you drive on ice?

January 29, 2010 by Gary Grant Leave a Comment

Very carefully!

Earlier this evening we saw some of the top crews at SnoDrift discussing the perils of driving on ice. Afterwards the cameras went out to the start of the shakedown stage and spoke with some of the drivers. While they all had something to say, it is clear that all the drivers are more than a little bit nervous about today’s event. You only have to watch Pastrana, ACP and Mirra attempt to leave the starting line to know that these guys are going to have the toughest drive of their lives today.

As we get news from tonight’s stages we’ll keep you informed.

Andrew Comrie-Picard front bumper cam from Tall Pines rally

Anyone who somehow has the notion that rallying isn’t racing needs to give their head a shake. Perhaps this awesome front bumper cam from ACP’s Mitsubishi Evo X will do the trick. This is raw footage shot on the Lower Hastings stage at the 2009 Rally of the Tall Pines last week. Most years, we see this event run in the snow, while this years was wet gravel and gave the drivers the opportunity to show how fast these cars are when they have a little more grip.

To give you an idea of how speed differential, eventual winner Pat Richard was a whopping 7 seconds faster than Comrie-Picard on this stage. If you listen, there are 2 sections where ACP is likely getting his bearings and is a little light on the throttle. Those 2 sections probably made the difference.

Chicks dig rally drivers and RC Cars

March 22, 2009 by Gary Grant 1 Comment

What happens when you combine 2 pro rally drivers, some dirt and a couple of RC cars? Things get silly of course!

Check out Tanner Faust and Andrew Comrie-Picard as they devise a new way to score chicks!

I don’t have any background story yet, but this video of Andrew Comrie Picard and the Evo at the 2008 X-Games doesn’t really need any description.

The latest in a series of videos from the Andrew Comrie-Picard camp is this stunning piece covering Team ACP at the 2008 Olympus Rally. If you are a regular reader, you’ll recognize the shooting style of Warwick Patterson and the rest of the team at Flat Over Crest.

Friends of The Garage Travis Allison and Andrew Harvey recently spent a day at the edge of a snowy while a handful of rally teams tested their machines for the upcoming season. The resulting combination of photography and video is very cool. The sequence photos are so smooth they look like video.

Things have been a little crazy here in the real life version of The Garage lately, so I’m more than happy to pass on the promotional efforts of Team ACP. Besides, what could be better on a cold Monday evening than a bit of rally action? This is the latest in a series of action videos offered up by Team ACP, with a little help from friend of The Garage Warwick Patterson.

Remember the pics we showed you last weekend of Andrew Comrie-Picard’s bent Evo? Well, that poor Mitsu has been taking a beating already this season. A few weeks ago at the Rallye Perce Neige, ACP made contact with both Pat Richard and Sylvain Erickson in a single stage!
