For those of us who following racing and even those who simply pay attention to which light bulbs they put in their house, Sylvania has become a house hold name over the years. In NASCAR they have been getting their brand out for the past 9 years by sponsoring the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. For many of us, myself included, we never realize just how much a light bulb can make a difference.
Take for example Sylvania’s newest automotive product, the SilverStar ULTRA headlights. These lights are the first in the industry which are not HID that improve visibility by adjusting the light color towards that of natural daylight, which increases both distance and beam width for greater safety on the road. The close the light color is to daylight the easier it is on the eyes, and the more relaxed our eyes are the less fatigued they feel allowing us to concentrate better on the driving task at hand.
Now most of us that are into racing and NASCAR often take for granted the logistics behind the scenes. Most commonly the celebrity drivers attract the most attention at the racetrack, but the unseen and unsung heroes are really those who deliver the cars and equipment. These are the guys who drive thousands of miles each week while the drivers fly from track to track.
The title sponsor for this weeks NASCAR race, Sylvania, realizes and understands the critical role these drivers play in the background of our sport. Earlier this year Sylvania started the “Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights” initiative with great success. 33 of the teams have accepted and installed a set of the newest automotive lighting product they produce, the SilverStar ULTRA headlamps.  These lights are helping them see better through the nights in their night time drives in inclement weather and on rural roads. Their whiter, brighter light benefits all drivers in that they help motorists see further and wider down the road and give them more time to react in cases of distraction or hazard.
“Safety is NASCAR’s number one priority for the teams and their vehicles” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR’s vice president for competition. “Hauler drivers put in thousands of miles driving across the country for their teams and safety measures like the SilverStar ULTRA headlights can make a big difference for them. We appreciate the commitment Sylvania makes to keep our sport’s drivers safe during their travels.”
The “Hauler Headlights for Safer Nights” initiative kicked off on July 14 and since that time the hauler drivers have logged over 5000 miles each.
“Being a hauler driver is not a 9-5 job” said Joe Verbanic, Marketing director for Sylvania. “Many drivers spend significant amounts of time behind the wheel after dark, which makes visibility crucial, especially when taking into account that AAA estimates the hours between midnight and 4 am have the highest amount of fatalities based on the number of people on the road. We are proud to not only be a sponsor of the Sylvania 300 but to also outfit these drivers with our SilverStar ULTRA headlights.”
So the next time you attend a race, or even just sit to watch one on TV, take a moment to think about the people behind the scenes, and how their safety makes sure that we get to enjoy our sport every time the drivers take to the track. Thank you Sylvania for helping us enjoy the sport we love by keeping these unsung heroes of NASCAR and racing in general safer night after night.
