If you go to Joe the mechanic to change your oil, read no further. But if your friends call you “the wrench” and you have a few bucks to burn, then open the box to your very own, build it yourself supercar.
Well established kit car manufacturers, Factory Five based in Wareham, Massachusetts, you might have seen their Cobra kit, created the GTM out of their vision of an affordable American Supercar.
Like Factory Five’s other models the GTM, as mentioned, is a kit, and you have to source the GM drivetrain yourself. The GTM is powered by an aluminum block GM V8, an engine with a limitless variety of configurations and power outputs ranging from 350 hp - 515 hp. This is mated to a Porsche 911 transaxle, allowing for the mid-mounted engine position. All this is housed in an aluminum and steel tube frame wrapped in an attractive, if somewhat generic, Corvette styled composite body shell.

To help the home builder in their construction, the GTM’s suspension, brakes and performance parts are lifted from the high-spec Corvette C-5 and other OEM GM performance components.
Despite being a ’supercar’ the interior of the Factory Five GTM has been fitted with the luxuries most drivers have come to expect, including; air conditioning, power windows and plenty of sound deadening and space.
The GTM kit costs $19,990, but with what’s been described to actually make it a supercar, you’re really looking at around $60,000.

MMMMMM….Factory Five!
I’ve been a fan for a long time and I’m hoping to build one, one day soon. I’m torn between the street car and the spec racer. If I’m building a cobra replica, I certainly want to race it.
Gary,
The guys at Factory Five are a class act and their products for the most part are excellent and they are always eager to listen and please. There are a few of us that want to see some safety changes to their roll cage design and Factory Five has been very receptive to our suggestions. As you know the Factory Five series is run with us (NASA) and it really is a kick in the pants that takes you back to the days of old when Shelbys and Cobras tore up tracks every weekend. And it’s also very affordable after all is said and done.
Since I work with these types of cars both on track and off I much prefer the spec racer and recommend it highly. I have a lot of friends running them including Bobby Bondurant, Bob’s son.
On the other hand, regarding their Supercar… All I can say is it sure looks good in the photo above but I can’t say the same for the ones I have seen in person. I also watched one run in this years 25 Hours of Thunderhill. If it’s name was based on how well it ran there it would be more like SuperTurd than Supercar.
Superturd huh? Seems to me there should be a theme song for that one!

I think the Batman theme song already took that one
Do-Do-Do-Do-Do-Do.. BATMAN!
LOL.
