This shot was taken at Brand’s Hatch at the exit of the tunnel that leads to and from the paddock. Even though it may not be the clearest shot, I thought it was a pretty cool bit of history. Until this morning that is, when I found some really cool information.
The photo was likely taken on the weekend of August 3, 1959 during the John Davy Trophy race, where Salvadori started in 3rd on the grid and finished in 2nd. The car is a Cooper T43 Grand Prix car, powered by a Coventry Climax.
How do I know all of this? Because this car, or another team car of the same era, is for sale right now! The car for sale currently wears number 29, though some of the period photos show it as 27 or 29. The history lists it as the car Salvadori raced at Brand’s, so I would suspect it is the same car.
Amazing how a little bit of Spring cleaning can brighten up a Sunday morning with a history lesson!
