Last week we took the Grant family out of The Garage to spend a week playing tourist at Walt Disney World in sunny Orlando. As always, I had my Canon in hand the whole time. I was pleasantly surprised that there was some automotive action to play with at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The Lights, Motors, Action. Extreme Stunt Show gives visitors a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes while filming a chase scene for a movie. The cars used are highly modified Opels that have been brought over from Europe for the sole purpose of stunt work in the show. How heavily modified? Well, for one, have a look at the pics after the jump and you’ll notice that there is smoke coming off the back wheels instead of the front. The interiors have been stripped and a 1,300 Hyabusa mill has been loaded where the rear seats would have been.
The hero’s ride in the story is the red coupe. This one is even more trick, as it is actually 3 cars. One is set up like all of the other cars. Another, used for backwards driving stunts, positions the driver so he is looking out the back window, while the front wheels are being driven by the Busa. A third car is set up with a driving position that is outside the car! In the show, they invite a kid from the audience to drive the full size RC car.
The chase scenes are a hoot, with lots of Busa noise, smoking tires and some really hot flame action. Check out our massive gallery after the jump.
