It’s been a while since we’ve given you an update on the progress of the Savage Speed Garage 34 Ford Coupe. Work is progessing well, but there’s a deadline looming on the horizon. Bonneville Speed Week may be in the middle of August, but time flies and it’s only a couple of months away.
The Coupe is now supporting itself, with the suspension almost complete. Maestro Aaron Von Minden is trying to decide whether the steering box should be Ford F100 or an old Norden sprint car unit. Now I don’t know too much about the Norden unit, but I would think the ratio is likely quicker than the F100 box. Somehow, I don’t think quick steering is a virtue on the salt!

My father worked as a heavy-duty mechanic at a mine for several years. The only difference I ever saw in the years that past since then is that the bigger the engine, the bigger the tools.
My Dad has since given up the monkey business for a more reliable (????) paycheck in the religion department.
I’m just wondering if my life long belief of an engine being an engine is actually true.
(I’m aware of physics and the differences there, I’m just wondering how great the divide might be)
Modern engines have gotten far more complex, but the same basic principles still apply for the most part.
I think the car would be wonderful when it’s finished. We can think less of it’s old looks. We just need it to fast and safe for the audience to enjoy the show.
I think the plan right now is for the car to be ready to drive to Bonne, not compete.
