The 2007 racing season is about to kick off, with the 2007 edition of the Rolex Daytona 24. The fabled endurance event features sports prototypes and production based sports cars battling it out over a full day at the historic Florida venue.
Over the past few years, an increasing number of driver’s from other series have become involved to the point where Daytona is a who’s who of racing. This year’s entrants include the following stars:
NASCAR
Tony Stewart
Jeff Gordon
Jimmie Johnson
Bobby Labonte
IRL
Scott Sharp
Sam Hornish Jr.
Scott Dixon
Dan Wheldon
Eddie Cheever Jr.
Juan Montoya
Helio Castroneves
Buddy Rice
Champ Car
Jimmy Vasser
Paul Tracy
Katherine Legge
Ryan Hunter-Reay
Graham Rahal
There are a dozen or so Formula 1 pilots and 3 overall winners of the LeMans 24 hour race, along with 21 drivers who have shared wins at the Rolex 24.
Maybe best of all, Speed TV will be televising a good chunk of the event live, beginning at 2:30 tomorrow. Perhaps the most fun is listening on Sunday morning when the announcers have been awake for most of the evening. So grab a cooler full of beer and a ton of junk food and plant yourself in front of the TV for the weekend. Turn up the volume and get ready for a great ride!
