Road Trip: Blue Mountain in the Fall

I got to spend a few days outside The Garage this week and was hoping to grap some cool fall colours shots along the way. Oddly enough, with the drive to and from Collingwood the only good photo ops were closer to home. Along the way though, there were a few interesting spots to share.

There is always something cool about a plane on a stick! Sometimes it seems like half the small towns in Ontario have a warbird of some sort gracing their local Legion Hall. Here we see a T-33 Red Knight aerobatics plane in from of the RCAF 441 Huronia Wing. A little searching brought up the incredible web site for the current Red Knight, an active T-33 show plane. The site is a super slick one that looks more like a Harry Potter trailer than an airshow site. There is a full history of the team & the current aircraft. We were lucky enough to have it fly over our house last year & it really is awesome!

As a teen back in the early Eighties, I used to make a detour on the way to Blue Mountain, just to check out the cool tractors at the side of the road. The Lewis Family in Minesing has been restoring and selling Ford tractors for decades & I had to take the same side trip to see if they were still there. I was pleasantly surprised to find there are a nice assortment of trucks to go along with the tractors now. It was too wet & I was late, so I didn’t stop to chat up the owners, but it would surely be fun to poke around the place for an afternoon.

Once I made it up to Blue Mountain, it was fun to see that the Intrawest folks are having some Truckin’fun for Halloween. My lame picture shows the need for a new digi cam here in The Garage. Really though, the Intrawest people have done an incredible job with The Village At Blue. If you’ve ever been to a Disney Resort, take all the goodness you’ve seen there and put it in a ski area setting. The rooms are incredible, the buildings are beautiful and there is a great assortment of restaurants and bars on site, so you really never need the car during your vacation.
