The FedEx guy came today and it was like Christmas came early (isn’t it always?) as we opened the box from Jakks Pacific bearing media fleet vehicles. Of course these weren’t our usual media fleet vehicles, these are much smaller. The new GX Racers line of cars are so new that even my super observant 8 year old has never heard of them. While it is only August, the marketers need to get the jump on Christmas shopping and so the folks at Jakks are reaching out to some non traditional channels. The average reader of an automotive blog may not be a heavy toy user, but a good number of us have kids right?
We received three packages containing different versions of cars. Snake Spin gyrates atop a pair of orange pylons, sorta like me at Pocono last year. The Super Jump consists of a funky clamp that attaches to an elevated surface like a chair or table and sends cars hurtling towards a mini scaffold that launches cars across the back yard. If gravity and a pull stick aren’t fast enough, they also offer the Turbo Launcher which accelerates the 1/64 scale cars to a scale 600 mph before they hit the ramp and fly off into oblivion. Or into the dog.
It can be a bit tough for the little ones to get the hang of pulling the stick fast enough to make Snake Spin spin, though this may become easier as the cars free up. Likewise, getting the hang of launching smoothly from the Super Jump can be a challenge at first. The real excitement comes when the Turbo Launcher is attached. The cars really do fly a long way, to the excitement of kids and Dad alike. Our two boys are still fighting over the right to launch first. Of course there was no fight while I was still outside: I launch first!
These hot little machines are sure to be a hit on Christmas morning, just be sure to clear a long enough area for launch and landing to ensure a safe re-entry!
