Spec Porsche racing was quite literally born in Canada with the Rothman’s Porsche Series of the Eighties and Nineties which has quite literally become a legendary series. It is somewhat ironic then that the current format, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge was being run in many countries, but not in Canada.
The folks at Porsche Canada decided the time had come to bring Porsche Motorsport back to Canada and 2011 marked the first season of the GT3 Cup Challenge Canada. The first two races saw just 7 cars on the grid, but that number has swelled to 18 cars for the final round this weekend at Mosport International Raceway.
Earlier this week, Porsche and sanctioning body IMSA held a gathering to announce details of the 2012 season. So far, there is a February test session at Sebring and 3 confirmed race weekends. There are plans under way for an additional 4 or more possible events. Even more exciting is the prospect of more new teams that are hoping to become involved in the series.
The gallery below has a few shots from the 2012 event and a bunch of shots from this morning’s practice session at Mosport. This promises to be an exciting race weekend!
