Porsche goes retro with Boxter RS 60 Spyder

The Porsche mystique is made up of many legendary cars and the people who designed and drove them. Of the cars, arguably the most important car, the one that laid the foundation for Porsche’s racing supremacy was the Type 718 RS 60 Spyder. This diminutive little car took on and beat not only cars in its’ own class, but those in the larger displacement classes as well.

At the Bologna Motor Show in early December, Porsche will unveil a modern tribute to the famed RS 60. The Boxter RS 60 Spyder wears a new front end, reminiscent of the original car to set it apart from normal Boxters. Added performance comes from an upgraded exhaust that allows 303 horsepower. Wheel spacers push the 19″ Porsche SportDesign wheels further out in the wheel wells to complete the visual.

Silver metallic paint (what else could they have used?) is set off by red leather interior and matching red roof. For the less adventurous, a grey leather and black roof combo will also be available.

Each RS 60 will come complete with a tasteful dash plaque that shows which of the 1960 units built you are seated in. In case you missed it, 1960 was the year of the original RS 60’s first win at Sebring.

Gary,
As you know this is a Marque very close to me….but I feel they’ve (Porsche) missed certain key details to truly make this special. To see the boxster humps and a centre fill fuel cap are at least two items that would have improved on this design…..and the rims (although nice) needed to be different.

Just my opinion, and were I to buy one that’s how I’d have it……complete with a Manthey Racing Carbon front end.

Best Regards
